Downtown Searcy Arkansas concrete park.

Right in the midst of downtown Searcy we have this little park that has been decorated.  It is between two buildings in what was a little parking area.  The city has come in and painted murals on the back wall.  I have always loved murals.  It fascinates me that they can be so accurate from a distance and then you walk up to them they're made up of broad strokes that are not so accurate at all.

How much the park is used may be questionable because right now the temperature would be too hot and in the winter it might be too cold and it is not right beside a restaurant so you could sit and have lunch outside.  But nevertheless it has a charming mural that make me stare at it each time I drive by.

Barbara:  Never mind bemoaning the fact that there isn't a restaurant next to this concrete park.  Just get some of your Searcy friends together... bring some folding card-tables, some table cloths, and have everyone bring a picnic lunch to share, and just set up the tables back by the mural... and have a great lunch.  What fun.  I think even I would be glad to attend.  Prolly more into the Fall would be better, temperature-wise.

I personally think this concrete park is a good idea gone bad, NOT that I was consulted.  Have you ever seen anyone there, eating or visiting?  Karen Anne does have a good idea, though.  I know lots of ladies who get together for lunch periodically.....the idea that they could just bring their own sandwiches, whatever, and eat in Searcy's concrete park might be a good thing to persue.  Why don't you and the ReMax gang have a picnic there this fall?   I'll be looking for you to do just that.

Karen Ann, your last sentence said it all.  Fall would be better!  Absolutely.  I can't imagine walking up to see the mural in this weather much less dining there.  We're burning up in Searcy Arkansas!

Anita, the heat is getting to you too.  Now.....what would make this a success is to have a nice little restaurant that serves something like an adult beverage and then you could sit out there and order another one.  Then you'd not notice the heat or the cold!  But we're a dry county so that will never happen.  But it is a pretty little thing!

Hi Barbara,

love the mural on the back wall! Now, they have to paint the sides of those buildings.

Barbara at first glance I thought the mural was a whole bunch of old bill boards torn out from somewhere, which were placed haphazardly against that back wall. So the mural is really good and life like. I think it does need some trendy patio tables, and colorful picnic umbrellas to set the stage. I think then the tourist and locals will come in to enjoy this space. Right now it is a blank canvas needing a little staging.

We have some neat murals in Bellingham. Been here so long now I do not notice them, but they are very attractive.
