A Buck and Vegetable Oil Will Get You to the Beach

It's cheap.

It's environmentally friendly.

And it runs on bio fuel converted from used vegetable oil.

And it can help with our traffic congestion on busy weekends.

It's the new Beach Shuttle running through Leucadia, Downtown Encinitas and into Cardff-by-the-Sea along the coast road/Route 101. And it will only cost you $1 (one-way), or $5 for a weekend pass.

Wherever Shuttle provides the bus - the Coast Cruiser - that covers a several mile route through these coastal towns (and yes, stopping at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas) with 11 stops, including the Coaster Station (commuter rail). The company collects used vegetable oil from a number of area restaurants, so keep eating those fries.

The new shuttle is a pilot program for 14 weeks on weekends through Labor Day (hours are 11 am until 9 pm) but my bet is it will become a full fledged service. I'll have to test it out - it stops at several of my fave places in the area - near Auggie's House of Crab and Moonlight Beach.

At first look at the title I thought you were going to tell us to put vege oil all over to catch a tan lol. Great idea for a beach shuttle! We have city buses that go all over the place and around the island. Next time you and kay get here you can ride around :)

This is great! We all know that there are many other sources of fuel. Plenty of people have made their own vehicles that run on alternative fuels. Our government needs to wake up!

I hope we hear of more environmentally friendly vehicles especially public transportation. Sounds like a great idea.

Jeff, so does the oil have trans fats? And are they bad for the engine? It's amazing to me how many ways there are to run a car or bus!

Jeff did I ever mention to you how jealous I am that you live by the darn beach:)

Jeff, just like Sally I got a different impression of what the vegetable oil was going to be used for, but I wasn't thinking about a sun tan like Sally ...... LOL

Another great post Jeff! I think I'm starting to get it. My wife and I love Auggies and try to eat there at least once a week. I hope those folks make it. That's our burrough and it's great to be able to walk to some good watering holes i.e. Le Papaguyos, A Little More as well. I can see Le Papa's and hear the entertainment right from our balcony.
