Recently Home Harmony was called into look at an older property in the Town Of Mount Royal. (Montreal)
The owner had relocated to a beautiful retirement home in the same neighborhood 6 months earlier but up until now had not placed the home on the market. She had lived most of her married life in this home and had raised her family there for over 40 years ....she was having trouble parting with it.
She and her daughter were on site when we arrived to do a consultation. Although in her early 90's she was a feisty lady with a strong opinion on what SHE wanted ... it was quickly evident that this home desperately needed the wallpaper removed (circa 1940's) and the carpets ripped out to start. She would not hear tell of it ... not even painting. In the hour we were they we quickly rearranged the sitting room to give them an idea of what we could do to improve the look.
Luck for us on the day of our return the Owner and daughter were busy elsewhere ;o). With much of the homes content taken to the new home we were left with a few large pieces, some glass and table ware and fabric! Yes, fabric, as we rummaged through the closets (THANK GOD they weren't there) we found some bags of material .... the JACKPOT for Stagers and re-designers that have next to nothing to work with. We got to work sorting what we thought we could re-purpose somewhere in the home. We actually found an old frame and lined it with a piece of fabric to create artwork for the dinning room.
Although it still looked liked "Grandma's Place " it had a welcoming feel to it.
There were over 50+ people to visit the "Open House" that weekend and 2 offers followed This house sold within 7 days of being on the market! Not bad for a house decorated with old fabric!
I'll follow up with a few pictures ...
