There is only "ONE WAY" you can be the featured member.  It's Points!  You have to have the most points... period!  It is not based on your successes, your experience, your moral or ethical values, it's all based on points.  I will tell you from personal experience, that points don't get you leads, and points will not get you referrals, it's the content of your Blog that is the most important of all.  However, points do determine where you are placed both on ActiveRain and on Localism.com.

If you are not in the top 10, you will not show up on Localism.com in your area.  If you are not on the first page in your area, will you get lost in the crowd?  How do you get enough points to be in the #1 spot in your area? Maybe even just being in the top 10 could be to your benefit!  Let me say this, you're going to have to work very hard.  How hard, depends on how many members there are in your area, where you want to be, and where you are now on the totem pole.

This is the best way I know to help you become the number one "Featured Member" in your area.  I owe this post to the guests I've invited.  Here is the recipe for your success on ActiveRain based strictly on points:

  • First, your profile page is the starting point and foundation for your initial points. I quote the FAQ section that states, "We've incorporated a unique scoring system into the ActiveRain Real Estate Network to reward contributing members. When you create your profile it is automatically scored based on thoroughness, and also will be manually scored by a reviewer for quality." Build your profile as you would your own webpage.  Remember, a web-page will pass away when you do, but your Blogs live on forever!!
  • Point Summary - By checking your points summary the first time (located on your "My Home" page), you will automatically be given 50 points.  there are some other "secret" areas on ActiveRain that will award points so click around on everything and explore.  Navigation on the rain is the key to getting around quickly and efficiently.
  • Invite others to ActiveRain- When they join, you'll get 50 points and then 10% of all their points forever.  There are various ways to invite others, be sure to use the "referral link"when doing this.  You must use this link to get the points.  Then help those you've invited to be successful Bloggers, it helps their business, and gets you more points.
  • You must Blog!  You get 200 points for every post you place on your Blog.  Make it a good post, because you'll get 1 additional point for every comment made.  You are allowed 10 posts per week.  If your post is selected as a "Featured Post" on ActiveRain, you'll get 400 points plus 1 additional point for every comment made.  Content is king, so put some thought and effort into your posts.
  • Commenting on others Blogs and posts.  You are rewarded 25 points every time you comment on someone else's Blog.  You are allowed up to 10 comments a day.  That's an additional 250 points per day.  If you comment on theirs, they'll comment on yours.  These are the most important points of all.  You will learn from other members, and establish great relationships in the process.
  • Uploading Photos to Localism.com.  You used to get 100 points for the first photo to an area, 50 points for the next 10 photos, and 25 points for any photos after that. This has been changed due to the mass amounts of photos that were being uploaded just for points.  The quality was over-run by quantity. There are no points available for uploading photos, but there is the benefit of sharing "Quality Photos" of your area with visitors and viewers.  Plus, when someone sees "Your" photo, it has your name and links them back to you. USE ONLY YOUR BEST QUALITY PHOTOS for uploading.
  • Helping Other Members gets bonus points.  When ActiveRain sees examples of members helping each other they may reward you points. This could be just answering questions, making referrals, etc.
  • Promoting Active Rain.  If you promote ActiveRain,  let them know and they'll reward you with points for it. For example writing about AR in your off-site Blog, adding a link, or mentioning them in one of your marketing pamphlets, etc. ActiveRain rewards creativity.
  • Contests and Challenges:  From time to time, you will find various contests put on by ActiveRain and it's members.  In many cases, there are points awarded for the winners. See examples:
(and sometimes you'll get points at random for acts of kindness to others in the community.)

All this to say, if you create a post, (get featured), comment on 10 posts each day, that's a potential of 650+ points a day. My disclaimer on all of this is that it's about quality, not quantity.  Remember that readers and other members will be able to tell if you're just after points,  based on the time and effort you put into your work here.  You can have the best of both worlds if you do it right.

Here is MY POINT!  To become the featured member in your area, and to use ActiveRain as a tool to increase your business, your network, and be successful, you need to become skilled in the art of Blogology.  You have to become a blogger, and just Blog, Blog, BlogYou will get out of it, only what you put into it!

Yes, Brad.  Agree to all your points.  One of our cohorts in this group compared blogging to being in a marathon.  Instead of putting one foot in front of the other, you put one post in front of the other and , as you said, blog, blog blog (and I AM getting some nice leads and referrals from this).

Hey it's me again. I can't figure out how to load pics on localism. If I log in there & click on KY pictures this is what is there:

Notice: Photos can no longer be uploaded at the state or county level. City/Community photos now show now in states also.

Am I missing something? Help!

Donna - you don't have your work cut out for you, you have your FUN cut out for you!!

Carole - your post is pushed to Localism when you check the box to do so.  The photos have to be uploaded directly into Localism from the Localism website.  Your post's are placed on Localism based on which boxes you check, and if you take it all the way down to the County, City or even neighborhood level. Hope that answers your question.  If not, let me know, I can show you how on line.  Thanks!   :-)

I had no idea that you get 10% of referred members points!  That's awesome!  Great tips!  I think I had found most of them already, but the others were handy to know!  I'll be sure to post any new ones I find to help out the AR community.  Someone told me when I joined that it was addictive and I thought "Yeah, right" but everyday now I think "What would be a cool topic to blog about today?"  I don't want to just re-post some news story I read, rather give my take and back it up with good cites.  Thanks again for the tips!

Brad,

I was logged on at the time I added the subdivsions to localism and have checked the points summary.  I got points when I first started for six neighborhoods I added the first week or so I joined.  One afternoon I was home sick and brought our area up to date as no one had ever added any real neighborhoods (just towns).  I added around 20 or more that day if if I recall but did not get any points in my points summary.  It isn't that important but I am very clear on the fact that I am not clear on the scoring on AR. No big deal. But thanks for answering the blog challenged.

Hi Teri -

I have been asked by one of the moderators to try and help others by "Paying It Forward" with their posts and blogs.  They are looking for posts that have good content, graphics, links, and readability...easy on the eyes.  I am still trying to master this art myself, but many other members need help in this area.  That is why I do my welcome comment to newbies.  I am always trying to help others write "Featurable" posts.  The moderators really need our help in this area, I owe them that!!  Thanks Teri, glad you found this post!

These are super tips and points for me to upgrade my website at Active Rain.  Being new, it is great having someone teaching me to correct way to promote and network.  Thank you for all your help with the new technology and terms.  I look forward to an active "rain" in my real estate world.
2:05pm • #64

Hi Renee - I think blogging is one of the BEST forms of prospecting in my opinion...the main page of Active Rain states:

The ActiveRain community> </td> <td width=

Welcome to the Community!

We are a free online community for real estate professionals designed to help them promote and grow their business.

I think prospecting and promoting yourself to your clients, readers, potential customers and referrals couldn't get any better than this free service.  Just my opinion.  If it was NOT worth it, would 1500 Real Estate Industry Professionals be joining every week?  That's my opinion, it is your choice! Thanks for the comment, let me know if you would like to read some of the success stories that have come from Active Rain and the blogging efforts of those individuals.  :-)

Thanks Brad, I did'nt know about the photo points. But I do have a  question. I noticed on the Florida page, the featured member signed up only a week ago and has 11,000 points, and is featured #2. Can someone please tell me how she accumilated so many points in that short amount
of time. I have been blogging like crazy and I have almost 6000. I've been on AR for about 3 weeks. I might just go ahead and ask her but the problem is she's my competition for Florida. Therefore, she probably won't reveal any secrets.
Thans for any help with this.

-Callie
9:24am • #67

Callie - The other agent may be cutting and pasting posts, and might be doing only the activities that get points and to the max!  (many of us members can tell) Trust me when I say, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT POINTS!!  Go for the "BEST" content and look at the Big Picture.  This will "eliminate" some of the others as competitors.  Write for your readers, your community, and your business.  The points will come, and so will the business.  I know it's frustrating to see someone else capitalize on the point thing, but they will come and go!  Just focus on your content, your posts, your comments, your clients and your business!!  These are the "valued roots" of blogging on AR.

Remember, anyone can get 1,000,000 points eventually, but what is your true goal and purpose for blogging on Activerain?.....give it some thought....then boldly go forward and focus on that goal!!   :-)

Good point about promoting AR offline.  Who do you contact at AR if you have something?
1:33am • #75

Brad,

Thank YOu again for your article.  I am wholeheartedly dedicated to becoming featured in my area.

The people invited recently have had problems with their invitations from me.  I repeat the instructions in my invite. Even so, I have not been credited for their acceptances.  Are those points lost forever?  Those that I invited that I personally assisted in accepting the invite were credited to me.  I don't know what the problam is, but I have already lost points for 5 different invites.

3:39am • #76
Jeff - you can click on the "Contact Activerain" at the bottom of the lower right hand side of this page.  Just scroll down, click on it, and you're there!  Hope that helps, if not, let me know.
3:49am • #77
Marie - best of luck to you, it's hard work, but worth it!!  :-)   Regarding your invites, the new member has to link through your invite only!!!  If they just go to Activerain.com and click on join, you or no other member will be credited for that invite.  Click on the link to "Invite Others" from your "Home" page.  It gives pretty clear instructions on how to do this, it still does not guaranty your invitees won't join directly.  Let me know if this helps, or call me and I'll walk you through over the phone.  Thanks Marie, sorry you've had some challenges in that area.  :-)

Hi Brad, I was just re-reading your post and noticed that you mention that we can get points for adding communities/neighborhoods to Localism. About two weeks after this post was published, AR stopped rewarding points for adding communities/neighborhoods for a variety of reasons. Since I know a lot of people read your posts, I hope you'll consider updating that section of your post so no one tries it and gets upset when they don't get points.

You forgot to mention you have to be hungry and then when you make it to the top you have to run as fast and as far as you can because they are all chasing you. It's nice to be on top. Thanks for the 25 need to stay on top.

Why do you say a blog will live on forever as opposed to a website? I of course favor blogging over static websites but if I notice that a blog doesn't have fresh new material on it (as would be the case if the author died) than I don't waste my time with it?  Good article, I added several communities to my area a while back and didn't receive any points, so you may have to add material to them as well, not sure, maybe you can shed some light on this.
5:55pm • #92

Leanne, thanks for that info, I will make the change...I sure do appreciate you pointing that out!  I don't normally update old posts, but in this case I need to!  I also heard that you SHOULD update posts so that google will come back and push you up higher if they see changes have been made.  :-)

Scott - at least you didn't just take the 25 and run, you took the time to comment, and that's what counts. The real question is will you come back and comment again to this comment, and snag another 25?  LOL!!
Thanks for your insight and for raising the second question (which may just be my next post)

Rob - I think you drank that beer too fast, you already told me that about 4 comments above you last one.  Did you forget to read my comments?  Dude...what's up with that?!?  LOL!  :-)

Lanre - don't focus on the points, focus on your content, your business, your quality and your audience!  Thanks for your comment!

Wendy - I remember being there, it's just as hard today as it was my first post. But, it does get more re-assurring when you know you're surrounded by friends and other network professionals that are here to help if you need us.  :-)  Nike says it best!  "JUST DO IT!"

7:13pm • #95

Daniel - great questions!  I'll answer the 2nd one first.  After I wrote this post (about 2 weeks later)  Active Rain removed the points for added communities.  In the comments above, you'll see that Leanne Paynter reported "AR stopped rewarding points for adding communities/neighborhoods!"  So with her update, and your comment, I did go back in to this post and removed it from the blog.

The 1st questions was to get you to ask the very question that you did?  You caught it!  When you pay for a webpage, you also pay for the domain name and space on a server from an ISP.  If you don't renew your domain name or ISP service, your website comes down off cyber-space and browsers will display "WEB PAGE NOT FOUND".  If I pass on next year, I did not pay a fee to have my blog on AR or any of the other blogging networks and providers.  If you don't update your blog post, it still remains on the internet, long after you are gone.

The beauty is, your great great great grand children will be reading stuff you wrote for years to come. So, be careful what you write, these will be on the web till you delete them.  Makes ya think huh?  That's my story and I am stickin to it!  :-)  Just FYI, i would occasionally update my older posts since google likes to see that kinda thing!  I just did it to this one, let's see what google does with it now!  Thanks Daniel, let me know if this addresses your comment to your satisfaction.

Hi Brad,

I'm back again. I joined AR a week ago. You visited my blog and gave me some suggestions. I followed some of them. You know I'm somewhat challenged as this is my first experience blogging. Anyway, it's one week later and I am here to tell you that I am #1 featured member in my area (Oceanside CA) and I have over 5000 points. Thanks for steering me in the right direction!

Hi Beth - you're welcome, but let me go on record with this comment.  It's really not all about points!  You can be the #1 featured agent in your city, county, state, or even all of Active Rain, but it is your content that is critical to the growth of your business.  If you're #1 and you're posting junk, what business will that generate for you?  Best idea is to shoot for both!  Great content and tons of points because of the great content! That's my opinion for what it is worth. Heck, it's free so I'm gonna throw it out there.  Good luck in you point and business efforts.  Thanks for the comment!  B-)

If we were not competitive, we would be working 9 - 5 Monday through Friday with no chance of anything but a 2% per year raise - the points give Active Rain a way of basically keeping score and our competitive natures make us pay attention.

I positive agree it should be about content - but where would we be without our competitive spirits?

Remember to thank the folks at AR everytime you get a lead, a deal, or a contact from AR, Localism, or another member.  Without this network, we wouldn't be having this exchange of comments!  I think that all too often, us members take that for granted.  I have tested my theory with an outside blog, I have posted over 20 posts, and only got a few comments from around the world.  Active rain gets you comments, SEO, friends, and business!

Brad,

Thank you so much for the information.  I actually signed up for this site a long time ago but it wasn't until I started setting up my website that I realized how useful it was.  My website has an area for blogging and I didn't know what a blog was so I googled it and ended up back here.  I find myself here several times a day now trying to figure it all out.  I am so glad I found your post it has really painted a clear picture of what it is all about.

I look forward to catching up on all of your past post and can't wait to read the future ones.

Thanks again.

Teresa - you will find this network to be one of the "BEST" in the industry.  There are many great agents and bloggers here that share in their successes!  All the best to you, let me know if I can ever be of any assistance to you and your team. That's why I do what I do, my reward is always the reciprocation of business I get from Active Rain and clients I help by growing their business.  Lately, I have been focusing on helping others build their blogs for success. I love it! I look forward to seeing your growth and successes out here too.  I'm glad you were googled back to Active Rain. Guess what, the same thing will happen with your clients and future clients too!

Brad, thanks for providing the math of the AR. A week ago, when I started, I did not even know one get points - I thought people are just talking about stuff they like, are interested in, want to learn about and want the public to learn about. On top of it all, it turns out, we get points, we get featured, we also get worried about not getting points and not getting featured. It's great. I just hope all this pressure wouldn't get to me (lol).

Bright - you should not blog when you are suppose to be working. This will not help you at all. You should blog as if it were a hobby (even thogh it's not) and leave yourself the space and time to truly express yourself and your voice.  Record your thoughts on a voice recorder, and then come back to them later and share them with others through your writing.  I hope that helps!!  :-)
7:07pm • #164
Deb - I see that often as well.  The thing is, maybe it really is the best that member can do. Maybe we think they are just after the points, but maybe that is the best they can write. Rather than assume, we should take these folks and help them either way.  If it's points they're after, explain why they should reconsider. If their writing just needs some meat cause they just have bones, then we should help them with ideas to improve their blogs. It's called paying it forward, I have had many members who I have helped because it didn't matter if it were points they were after, or they just needed some support writing ability.  It can be difficult when you are mis-understood, and many are!  Thanks for your comment, I just had to get that out of my system!  :-)

The points are also based on the first photo posted, not just YOUR first photo. If photos already exist in a specified area, you only get the 25 points per photo if there are already 10 or more.  Include your photos in your blog and with your content, they'll have so much more value there, and will get viewed by so many more viewers and readers of your blog!  Thanks for the FYI heads up!

Brad,

Your blog is most helpful.  Is there a way to send an automatic response to new members on a daily basis?  Or is there a way to see the new members each day or week?

I'm also a little confused about the "adding associates" to my account.  When I add a friend as an associate, does it only show up on my profile when they join A/R?

Thanks for your support for new bloggers!

Jan - thank you!  There is no automated way to welcome new members unless you created some kind of a macro. If you go to the Activerain.com main home page, you'll see a link that says "NEW MEMBERS TODAY"  I have been using that to welcome new members in my area and some others too.  You still have to post in the comments, and only one at a time.

When adding associates, it will show up under "My Associates" link.  You can only control your comments on others pages, you cannot control what they comment on yours.  This is a powerful tool in AR as it can act as your referral or reference page that others will read before deciding to add you or not.  Let me know if this helps answer your questions. Thanks Jan, glad to help!!  :-)

I still have one question...

Is a week Monday-Sunday or just the total number of posts within the last 7 day period?

I haven't tried posting as many posts as it would take to figure this out. I don't come up with that much good content in a 14 day period.

1:49pm • #179
Ross - this info is great for getting around and knowing the points, but don't compromise your content.  Points will get you featured if you have the most, but it won't insure you get business.  The content will build readers and subscribers and then the business will come.  Content is King, you can't cash in points for anything...ever!

Ben - you'll have to click here to find that out. It's a good question, but until now, I don't think anyone's cared!  If you're not posting that much anyway, I'm just curious why you need to know? I think it's Sunday to Sunday, but not positive.  Anyway, when you get the answer from AR support, why don't you come back here and post it for all the other readers, that would be awesome! Thanks Ben!

Thanks for the advice. What do I get for being a featured member. If it's more business, I guess it's a very valuable advertising tool. Your blog is filled with a more information than most blogging books. How do you have time to actually get any work done. Or do you consider this work? It should be generation a lot of business for you.

Thanks again. I'll be reading and learning

4:10pm • #182

Hi Elizabeth - A featured member just means you havethe mot points in your geographic area.  That does have some benefit but not as much as having good content in your Blog and your posts!  My book will be coming out soon I hope, I'll put you down for the 1st copy! LOL!  :-)

Time?  I use the early morning hours and the late evening hours to make it work! I have a full time job, I'm a father of 3, a husband, a musician, a photographer, a coach, a trainer, a martial artist, and a Blogger!  I actually sleep for 7 hours a night as well.  Hmmmm...how doe he do it she asks?  I have a higher Power... and it's not coffee! hehe.

This is work for me, I just had to give up my needle knit, my crochet, and my bowling league! LOL!  Honestly, if you use Blogging the way many here do, it will increase your business and your marketing efforts will pay off in great dividends!  Keep reading, learning and Blogging, you'll only get out of it what you put into it!  Happy Holidays!!

Hello Brad! I love that I am the only one in my area Which of course makes me #1 in my area. That stands to reason. I have invited many with many "no thank yous". They don't know what they're missing. I am at the top of Google and several of my posts continue to make it to the first couple of pages. Not everyone is that lucky. For now at least I don't have to share the limelight. They WILL discover us eventually but it won't be a happy day for me! Thanks, Deb

Question Brad,

I am new to AR and I am in the mortgage industry.  Where exactly are my prospective clients looking when they run into a blog that I have created.  Are they looking on AR or are the just seeing my name and posts from doing a web search of mortgage people in my area?

I new and confused and really believe in AR already.  I just am having a hard figuring out all of its advantages.  HELP!!

5:03pm • #208

Charles - Welcome to Active Rain. Your question is good, and commonly overlooked by many new members.  There are a couple things to consider:

1. When you ask, " Where exactly are my prospective clients looking when they run into a blog that I have created."  it depends on who your clients are?!?  Are you talking about AR members? Or Consumers?  Active rain feeds out to a site called localism.com which is intended for the public and local communities, but I find many of my viewers are coming right to my Active Rain posts.  They are coming from all over the Country too.

If someone does a search in google and finds you, they might end up at your profile page, your Blog, or a post within your Blog.  I don't know the stats for how many consumers search AR by agent name, area, or featured.  Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out!  I hope this helps.  Just start writing, the rest will follow.  Focus on content and nothing else.  Who is your audience? What is your voice or experience, Now write an attractive and effective post!  :-)

Cody, you might want to wait a bit before hitting that submit button again.  Might also want to go back and delete about nine of the above.

I think each comment that you get points for has to be different, not 10 of the same!!

Yeah, I got impatient once and kept clicking the button.  Same thing happened to me.

Live & Learn.

The featured agent in Kentucky is so far ahead of everyone that it'll be  a real battle to knock her down.

I've given up on watching the points.  I just post and comment as I see and feel the need and desire.

The points tend to take care of themselves that way.

Thanks, that was interesting. I always wondered how people got SOOOO many point!! I'm not sure what it means to "add someone as an associate"? ANd if blogs are basic, then you don't check the boxes for being local, right?!

Jeannette - adding someone as an associate is something you do if you like.  You can also comment to that associate in the comments box. When someone adds you as an associate, their comments often times will build credibility to you, your blog, or your business.  It's the do unto others principle. :-)

The Local option I think you are referring to is for Localism.com.  That's if your post is directed to a local "Public" audience.  Let me know if that helps!  :-)

10:31pm • #225
Chelle- you got it right.  Blog for content, not points. They will come if you are consistent and post good content.  The business that comes will be even better than the points and the relationships you'll build are even better than the business!  ;-)
10:33pm • #226
Cody -I got your point!! LOL!  I went ahead and removed your duplicate comments here, it happens to us all.  Sometimes I used to use explorer, and get impatient and keep clicking submit.  It's like it had a mind of it's own. There were a ton of comments, so please forgive me if you've already answered this, BUT when I put my area in localism and went to photos, I received this message:

: Photos can no longer be uploaded at the state or county level. City/Community photos now show now in counties also.

Doe this mean I cannot gain any points for adding photos, or am I doing something wrong?

Melissa, you can only add photos at city and neighborhood levels.  You can add neighborhoods if they aren't there.  Also be sure your photos aren't too large, Active Rain will not allow those big 3 -6 megapixel files to be uploaded.  Let me know if this helps, by now you probably have already figured all this out!  :-)

I am lucky that most REALTORS in my area do not get it.  I am feature agent in my county but a long way to go for the state. Since I work in two main cities I which I could choose them both as my area at the city level. Posting to AR and Localism has brought me 4 buyers contacts in just the last week. The advantage in Google search is great.

How do you become a "Featured Real Estate Agent" in 2 cities?.  I am Featured in Sahuarita AZ. which was difficult seeing that I am the only one in my area :).  I would also like to be listed in Green Valley AZ and Amado Az since these are all our areas of service.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ralph, the only way I know to become featured in both cities is to become featured in your State unless both cities are in the same county.  You can and should only have one profile here, and you can still work your way up many different ladders here.  Focus on your writing and your content, that's really what matters the most!  :-)

Thanks Brad - so I had a question (I think it's the scientist person in me and not sure if there really is a specific answer out there but)...I've noticed that some folks even in their very beginning stages of blogging get hundreds of visitors and tons of comments the same day they post a blog.  So my first assumption of course is the title must have attracted folks to view the blog in the first place and the content inspired them to comment.  But sometimes I see interesting titles that get very few visitors.  Do you have any insight on this one?

Jessica:

I think it's a combination of a few things things:

  • The time that you've been here
  • The effort you put into your posts and comments
  • How many have subscribed to you
  • What groups are you adding your post to
  • The title of your post
  • The content of your post
  • The reciprocation to others blogs
  • Getting Featured gets you tons of comments

These are just a few reasons that come to mind.  I'm sure I could come up with more once I finish my coffee. :-)

You get out of the rain what you put into it.  Many will post the first few times and only get a few comments if any.  Some try to sell or advertise their first few and those don't work well either.  The posts that come across like a good conversation at a table or over a cup o joe, are the ones that usually generate the most comments and interest. Build.....and they will come, but you have to reciprocate, or they will leave.

Read, Write, Comment, Create, Learn, Share, and Grow.  That's what the "Science" in me has learned!  :-)

Brad-thanks so much for all the info. just recently joined and feel like I am late to the party. When you post to more than one group, is it just cut & paste, or is there more to it?
8:44pm • #267

Billie - there's a bit more to it and it's actually much easier than a cut and paste method.

1. First Join the groups your interested in.

2. Now write your post and just put a check in the box of the groups that you want it to appear in.

Be sure your topic and post meets that groups requirements.  You won't see the option to select groups and check the boxes unless you are in edit mode, or craeting a new post.  Rememeber, you have to join the groups first before you can have the option to post in them.

I hope that helps!  :-)  Let me know...

Brad

As ever - thank you for the great information. If I do blog about AR, which I was going to do anyway on my heatherrankin.net site, how do I let AR know that I've done this thing??

Also, another ? if you don't mind. Is it helpful to put a link back to my heatherrankin.net site on each blog I write, or is having just one link on my AR profile the way to go?  So much to learn and still can't believe the amount of help you offer.

Cheers!

Debra - the mystery has been solved, I'm glad this helped you out a bit.  Let me know if you need any assistance while out here in the "rain", I'd be happy to help!  :-)
9:07am • #285
Jeremy - Featured posts are selected by the AR staff moderators.  The ONLY way to get featured is to write good content.  There are a few ways this can happen.  When others feel your post is "Feature Worthy" they will "Flag" it and comment on it to be featured.  The other way is the "sift" which means as moderators screen posts, they will pull yours out to be featured based on Content and Topics of interest.  With almost 80,000 members, you can imagine the process and it's challenges.  Flag your own post if you feel it is feature worthy....   :-)
9:11am • #286

Heather - you can write a post about it, contact them by email, or leave them a comment on one of their emails. You can also let me know when you post it and I'll go tattle tale for you!  LOL!~  :-)

As far as your linking, my suggestion is to add it to your links on your Blog, and your Profile.  I don't feel it's necessary to add it to every single post.  Hope this helps, let m,e know if you need anything else at all. We're glad to have you here.  Your Questions tell me you are really trying to make value of your time and efforts here. Trust me, you will!  :-)

Hi Brad, thanks for the pointers.  I will make sure I have valuable information to put into localism when I blog.  I love the points but as you stated, points do not get you leads.  I definitely want leads.  Thank you so much for all the great posts you have created.
1:17pm • #289
Sonya - you make a great "point" yourself!  :-)  If you want leads, you will get leads.  In order to get leads, you'll have to give leads...wha you put out here will come back to you, and how much is determined by how much you give.  To get you must give, and to give is better than to receive.  You will have great success here with the attitude and determination that you have, I can tell!!  :-)

Kevin - I think it's ok to use snippets, but I'm not the expert on that stuff. I just try to never get too close to that line.  It's one I have heard you don't want to cross.  I do see members use quotes and snippets though, and they're not in court or jail.  There are plenty of posts here on AR that go into much more detail on plagiarism.

Hi Brad... OK, so I have been here for a while and just like when I buy something at IKEA, I try to assemble it first and read the instructions later.  I was reading the post and never realized we only got 10 scored posts per week (I don't think I ever exceeded that anyway), but it got me thinking... for scoring purposes, when do days and weeks end at AR?  Which days and which time zones?  Or, for scoring purposes, is a week considered any 7-day rolling period?  Just curious! :)

Steve - the week starts and ends on Saturday at midnight.  Not sure what time zone that is though.  I know when I post on AR, it's always 3 hours earlier than it says on the time stamp even though I am on the West Coast, same a AR.  If I post at midnight, it says it's 3:00am on the time stamp.  :-)

Sharon - the points are definately not a mystery once you understand how they work.  Too bad points aren't based on the quality of content. Focus on your content for business, not points for ratings!  :-)

Aida - as you know, the new Localism is still undergoing some changes and will reflect these changes in time.  You'll find all your posts are on your Loclism profile, we are only pulling posts from members that were submitted after 1/1/08.  Keep writing great content for your Localism area, you too can be a top neighbor.  Your AR points and status (which is what this post is covering) are different than localism.

Aida - your profile on Localism is at:

So yours will be http://localism.com/agents/aidapinto

Never feel dumb asking these questions, the dumb ones are the ones NOT asked. As far as your suggestion box?  Feel free to contact me anytime.  The Q&A at the top of the AR page is for consumers, not members.  We have talked about adding a Q&A for members, just hasn't been incorporated yet.  :-)

Hi Catherine - yes, there have been many changes here in the community, all for the better I think.  You can still upload photos to localism, just go to any community (as long as there are already photos there) and underneath the existing photos, you'll see a link "Upload Photos".  If there aren't any existing photos, it will be a few days before you will be able to add photos to that neighborhood or community.  Here's a sample page to demonstrate: http://localism.com/ca/la_jolla
