Photogenic Dundy - just chilling!!

As most of you know Dundy is our new rescue dog from New Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue.   We are TOTALLY enjoying him.  Over our almost 33 years of marriage we have had two rescue dogs and two pure bred dogs and those rescues just KNOW that they have been rescued.  He was here to greet our son when he got out of Iraq and now that he is out of the Army they have way bonded.  He also LOVES our sons girlfriend.

That cute Golden face got him in to the Golden rescue but we are fairly sure he is half Border Collie.  It makes for a great combination.  If you are thinking about adopting a dog please consider getting a rescue.  I don't think you will be disappointed.  They are the most devoted dogs!!

Marchel,

My dogs are photogenic, too, but I can hardly ever catch them in a pose like this. :)

Marchel, Some times pound puppies become the greatest pets. I guess that they are so grateful to be rescued and have someone to love them and someone to love...

Dundy looks like he's found his forever home!  How awesome is that?  I agree, and have always said rescued dogs are very grateful and make the best companions.

MARY, He is a very smart dog!! He has the Golden look but on the other hand he has that herding thing going on also.  It is a cute combination.

WILLIAM, I was just over at your blog but missed your Friday photo I guess I need to go back.

TONY & DARCY, I must admit he hit the jackpot with us (LOL) but we feel the same.

MICHAEL, This is our second pound pup and they have both been wonderful.  Our other one was a Golden/Cocker combination whereas this time it is Golden/Border Collie.

MISSY, I don't have a picture of him reading but I have one of him being a boy all set for Speechless Sunday.

TERRY, He has found his forever home!  We are all in love with Dundy!

JOHN, I love Goldens and I love Border Collie's so this works great we have both in one dog.

I can highly recommend rescue cats, too. I do think both dogs and cats know when someone has rescued them from those cages at the animal shelter.

Jim, This is Calvin.  We are his fourth home.  He was first rescued by a roommate of our daughters but then the roomate got pregnant.  Our daughter was going to keep him for a few months until the roomate and her boyfriend could get a place and then they split up.  We went to visit our daughter and ended up bringing Calvin home with us.

We have his adoption papers and he was turned in as a small kitty.  His adoption papers say Mrs. Waffles but then it is marked through and  Mr. is written in (lol).

I enjoy the heck out of him.  He lives with us as well as our grand kitty but Calvin will be staying here.  Someday the Grand-kitty may move with our daughter.  That is if she ever gets a normal job. Our daughter commutes so the one week out of the month that she is here the Grand-kitty totally drops me.

One dog and cat were rescued. My little Jack Russel was bought from an individual who wanted to breed her personal dog "one time".  My next door neighbor and neighbor across the street have dogs that have been "rescued".  One is Australian Shephard the other is a Beegle.

I'm glad you put the word out!

I had to come back and look at Calvin!  So cute.  I always choose rescue animals.  I don't think they're such great pets because they are grateful for being rescued, I think they are great pets because they were great animals who shouldn't have been in need of rescue.  I can't remember any incident of being sorry I chose a rescue animal, they've all over the years been great.  Some take more training and attention at first, but once we get to know each other it seems to work out fine.

Also, anyone wanting a certain breed can (sadly) easily find a rescue near them that specializes in that breed.  One of my rescues was a senior American Eskimo.  His owners were getting divorced and emotionally going through a hard time, and unfortunately at the age of 10 he needed a new home.  He was a beautiful dog, but it's a very nervous breed (this I did not know in advance, I'm a sucker for a pretty face I guess).  He won me over the first night, though.  I put him at the end of my daughter's bed at bedtime, then went outside and looked in the window.  He was on alert, guarding Rhiannon.  It's the "job" of the breed and the only time he didn't seem nervous was when he was guarding her.

Wendy - My neighbor has two Jack Russels, what characters!  They are her spoiled little friends, for sure.

Marchel, I am not a dog person, but if I were that is the way that I would get a dog.  Looks like you have add a great addition to your family.

WENDY,You just can't go wrong with a rescued cat or dog.  They are just so happy to be rescued.  I know that they know they have been rescued.  I took Dundy to get groomed shortly after we adopted him and it was so traumatizing for him we have decided to groom him ourself.

CHRIS, Thanks for coming back and looking at my Calvin.  He is quite the boy.  I was so afraid I was going to lose him that we ended up getting an invisible fence.  It has worked great.  I have put him on before but I guess sometime I need to write his story.

GEORGE, Dundy is a wonderful addition to our family.  So I'm curious do you have cats?

Dundy is gorgeous, Marchel.  I also think you are fabulous for going to a rescue shelter instead of a puppy farm.  So many animals need good homes since people tend to turn them out so easily (which I never have understood).

Marchel, no cats.  I have a 72 gallon bow front tank with lots of fish.  All I have to do is feed them once a day, and a water change every couple of weeks.
