We ALL have something that makes us unique and stand out. And often we fail to recognize what that particular talent or creativity IS. It's something that's just part of us and we don't even see it anymore. But a potential client can often pick it up and it may just be what attracts them to you for your services.
I had an opportunity yesterday to revisit a place I had gone to as a consultant but this time from a visitor's point of view. It is a clothing manufacturer located right in my hometown of Farmingdale, Long Island but you would never know it's there. Every single part of what goes into a piece of clothing is done completely in this one place. They work individually to design and then collectively to put it all together. Inspiration is all around that place and they almost feed off each-other, each incorporating ideas, designs and CREATIVITY into each and every piece that eventually makes it to market.
While discussing it later with the owner, I mentioned how taken aback I was by the sheer force of CREATIVITY that goes on there. And a funny thing happened, she mentioned to me that's what she saw in ME during the consultation. I don't see myself that way but I noticed when I walked in everyone remembered me and many people grabbed me to show me what they had done. What a nice feeling!
Are we missing our OWN creativity simply because it's what we do and we don't see ourselves that way anymore? And by missing it ourselves, there is a chance that our potential clients may miss it as well? There have been many posts on "Being YOURSELF" and that's what I am; but I do wonder at times if some of those "out of the box" ideas that sometimes I keep to myself should be shared. And my conclusion after yesterday is definitely YES.
Show your clients your "other" side, your mom part, your passions that have nothing to do with work and share your visions. I am betting they are all looking for someone who stands out from the rest in your field and something you say is going to touch a nerve or connect you in some way.
And remember your OWN creativity of seeing the potential in a home, putting a different "twist" on things, letting them see that you can think conventionally but also see a vision for something that others might be missing. It's just allowing your uniqueness to stand out and above from the others.
