Let's Play Telephone!
Remember the childhood game telephone? I used to love that game. Someone, at the beginning of a long line of people, tells a secret to the person sitting next to them. That person, in turn, tells that same secret to the person sitting next to them.
The secret is passed down the line until the last person has heard it. Then that person has to announce what the secret is.
Many times our networking is the "business" version of the game Telephone. If we have successfully provided a service to a company in need, that company may spread the word to their colleagues about how pleased they were the service they received.
What better referral can you get than by word of mouth? Nothing is better!
If you are the service provider, continue giving your best so as to encourage word of mouth referrals. Don't be afraid to ask clients to "play the game". Offer incentives for business obtained from referrals, such as: Discounts, gift certificates, or office kits.
