If you missed the story, check it out here
So last week I started a coaching program. We are currently working out of the book Improving Performance and Results by Rex C. Houze.
Well, the end result is that I will have formed some new habits.
Habits that will help me take my business to the next level.
Last weeks' assignment was to: plan my week and stick to it. Well, I planned the week (hey, make appointments in your calendar of the things that you KNOW need to get done)...doing them was another struggle.
Somehow I figured that because I had blocked time out of my schedule that it would graciously happen....ummm, no. Doesn't happen that way.
I hadn't prepared myself for the task that I assigned myself. Why? Because I hadn't taken the steps BEFORE hand to make sure that I could be successful with my plan. So, when I realized 48 hours into my week and if I didn't take a few steps back and make the time to gather the research and arm myself with the tools that I needed that it was going to fail. WHOOO.
This was a huge awakening to me. This is exactly the thing that "slows me down". I get distracted, work on other projects or put out fires. But what my true task at hand was to LEARN HOW TO BREAK THAT HABIT, by a simple step of being prepared. It sounds easy, but it wasn't as easy to recognize and turn it around (in mid-week) and fix it. But, alas I did.
The end result of this week was that I needed to stay in high payoff activities and consistently ask myself, do these tasks fall into that category? Well, you know the answer to this one.
So, with all of last weeks' assignments done it was time to get moving on this weeks agenda. It was about ATTITUDE.
The quote that I choose to focus on this week was: WE GET WHAT WE FOCUS ON. I figured this would keep me being mindful of last weeks agenda and what was to come.
So, this week I have to do a self-evaluation checklist to see exactly WHERE I see myself and my attitude. Does it need to be tweaked a little bit? Does it need to be chucked and started over? Do I just need to find one? Possibly a little bit of everything? Ahhhh, decisions, decisions.
We talked about the things that happen to you are not nearly as important as your reaction them. How our attitudes are formed, how to recognize them and what one does to work on changing. The biggest aspect of changing "them" was to eliminate the "if only" and "what if" thinking. Wow, does this so relate to our business right now? Would it relate 5 years from now, you bet it would. It's timeless.
The Action plan from there was to focus on what points keep me in my "zone". What abilities do I naturally have that will help me work on those high priority tasks (and stay in them) to be consistently working on the items that I struggled for in week 1 exercise.
My list is made....so, off to implement.
I'll let you know how I did.
