If you leave a comment, Russel will visit your blog and comment. As I said in a previous post, this past week seemed to have been travel week, either to cities far, far away in another galaxy -- 45 or more miles away -- or to the American outback, also known as the boondocks.

One of my inspections was up in La Jolla, where the Pacific Harbor Seals have taken up residence (pictures to come; no I don't inspect seals).

Since it's only natural that I wind up in La Jolla during rush hour -- and rush hour leaving La Jolla has to be the worst in San Diego County -- I took the opportunity to put on my walking shoes and take a long stroll down the beach, way past the Harbor Seals, to see some magnificent beach houses. This was my favorite one:

La Jolla Cove beach house, La Jolla, California

At first glance, you might think that the wall around this house is the foundation, but it's not. It's the sea wall. If you look carefully, you can see that this house is sitting smack dab (smack dab?) on the beach.

Here are the beach floor entrances for three other beach homes:

During an El Niño year storm, these beach houses sometimes have their first floors flooded (duh). I suspect that their insurance policies have an El Niño rider attached to them, with a pretty good premium, too. After all, if you can get in, so can Mother and Father Nature and their rowdy son, El Niño.

Russel, great stroll down the beach, I love the home with it's many gables! Very cottagy! Nothing like living near the water! Those entries to the water are very interesting. Neat door, looks like something you would see on a castle!! Thank you for sharing!

This is the cost of living on the water, I pay flood insurance at my house, but wouldn't change the location for any amount of money (unless I was Selling then I have a number in mind).

You live by the water you die by the water. Money wise. Thanks for the post.

Hey, Russel. Wow, talk about sleeping with the fish. We have a home here that has the same problem. Thanks, Jim

Hey, Caren - The nice thing about a stroll down the beach is that it uses more energy (calories!) than a walk down the sidewalk, and then climbing up and down the sandstone cliffs uses even more energy. I'll be 99 pounds by the time of the NAR Convention in November - LOL.

Hey, Steve - When I bought my home, 882 feet above sea level on a mountain side, my insurance company tried to sell me flood insurance. I figured that the first/second/third coming of Christ wasn't due within my lifetime, so I declined.

Hey, Terry - I do hope that when I die, it is by the water, perhaps at Blacks Beach here in San Diego.

Hey, Jim - If you want to see sleeping with the fish, you need to go eat at The Marine Room on the La Jolla beach during the year's annual highest tide. The walls are solid glass, and the waves crash up against them. Unfortunately, the highest tide is sold out years in advance, but the monthly high tides are pretty cool, tool. And the food is out of this world, or at least out of the sea. Pacific storms battered the restaurant in 1942 and 1982, breaking through the glass walls and flooding the restaurant.

El Nino is the rowdy son of Mother and Father nature? LOL!! I like that first shot. It's interesting with the various levels on the front... or back? I like the elevation.
