He Said / She Said or Meeting the Needs of Both Parts of the Couple

Recently, we staged a million dollar home in Montreal. Now we all know that homes in this price range aren't moving quickly, but this one did. It sold 4 days after we staged it.

After it sold, this is what the woman of the house had to say about our work:

"Working with Jackie [my previous partner] and Tanya was an enjoyable experience from start to finish. They were both professional and fun, as well as exceptionally creative. They made our house look better than it ever had, all while spending a minimal amount of money. The transformation was amazing, and the results were undeniable-we sold the house in just four days! They are a great team, and a great company."

This is what the man of the house had to say about it:

"Staging this place was the best investment I ever made."

Interesting, no? While they didn't disagree in their views, their focus was completely different.  Hers was on how good we made their house look and how pleasant we were to work with.  His focus?  The return on investment.

No matter what aspect of real estate we're in -- whether it's home staging, listing, representing buyers, home inspection, what have you -- real estate involves both men and women.  And to be truly effective, we need to present ourselves and our company in a way that appeals to both of them.  We need to appeal to the analytical one in the relationship, as well as the one who is more attuned to feelings, energy and aesthetics.

And one final word: Lest we get caught in a rerun of Leave It To Beaver, let's not assume it's the man of the house who will focus on the numbers.  Sometimes it's the complete opposite.  Which leads to another point for another day: Know your clients.

Don't you feel like taffy at times being pulled between the 2 parties that make up a client. And why are they called parties - when they frequently aren't! Really helps to think about how to presnet yourself.

Tanya, I think the woman looks at it from the emotional experience more than the man who looks at if very much from a practical viewpoint (investment). Different wired brains you know.
