I've been coaching for about 8 years.  I have a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, but got out because most people in the field of psych are really wierd.  I just wanted to help people, but all my cohorts got into psych to figure themselves out.

I went to law school and eventually got into loan origination.  ON hindsight, God had the perfect plan for me.  The business that I chose requires that as I lead others, I coach with a purpose and with a plan.  I'm invested in others.  I need to raise them up.

I started out with my Senior V.P.  He's a stud.  He's a guy who really poured himself into his direct reports.  But as he got too busy, the sessions began to wane a bit.  I moved on to Buffini.  Let me say that there is not a better coach and accountability group for anyone in our profession who wants real estate 101.  They're the best at mastering the military tactics you need to take ground in this profession.

But after 5 years with Buffini, I moved on to Rich Brennan of www.thebrennanmethod.  Rich is a rock star in our industry.  The only problems that I had with Rich were that I started to cut a ton of expenses when building my new home and the second problem is that he and I had so much in common that we crossed the lines into friendship and spent too much time talking about us.  He's the best though.

Now....after many years of drooling, I have finally signed on with Building Champions with Dan Harkavy.  Dan has been an industry leader in the mortgage industry forever.  Finally, I've reached out to the mecca and signed on.  He is into coaching in ways that other coaches only dream of.  I call it the graduate degree of coaching.  He is into:

Life

God

Calliings

Passions

Business

Bottom Lines

P & Ls

Changing the world on purpose

Leaving your mark on the world

Using God's DNA to make a positive impact on the world that we interface with.

If I'm going to coach my people, my direct reports, my clients and my recuits, I'd better have game on.  I really had better have game on.  Unless I continually raise the bar and my growth and my knoweldge and am held accountable to the plans that God gave me, how can I help others with their direction?  It's tough, but ultimately it's the right thing.  I start this week.  I'm excited.

I hope you have found your niche and home.  I think the comment about the people in the field of psychology is a bit too broad.  There are so many people in that profession helping people live a better life through behavoir modificaiton.

Larry, I have been looking for a coach too (insurance and/or business coach) but haven't found mine yet. How did you find these coaches? Any sugggestions you could give would be great. And good luck with your new coach!

I am glad that you found a coach to help you to the next level. A person needs a coach at each level. There are times when the present coach has reached his/her ability to help. It is time to move on. Great post

I believed my coach had made a positive impact in my business and how I view some stuff in the business too. I'd never trade it for anything.

I love Dan's coaching pyramid. I agree that when you start at the top and work down, all the other pieces fall into place.  Coaching is investing in your business.  Obviously you are good at what you do and if a coach works for a coach, then we all need to get a coach.

Good point about psychology.  I was going to mention, a coach might hire a coach just like many psychologists see other psychologists.

Congrats and good luck. Your training in psychology must help a bunch in this industry...especially these days!
