GeyserIt amazes me my struggles with technology and what I call putting systems into three categories.

Very Frustrating, Frustrating, and Mildly Frustrating.

My Kingdom To Find An Old Faithful In My Life.

Reliability with technology, with systems, with people in my life is important to me. Why? I am an impatient sort naturally. I have many places to go and things to get done. Just today two WiFi hotspots didn't work as advertised and I pulled out the Aircard for slower yet more reliable connections. So much for speed. Then Active Rain takes about 15 minutes to connect to blogging sites with no connection or Proxy Errors. I'd give up on WiFi sites if I had a 4G Aircard. I'd give up on Active Rain if a social network was ten times more reliable.

Reliability in ANYTHING in life is like a trusted friend. You want clockwork. Keep the trains running. Be on time if you say you will be there at that time. We are talking our precious life and efficiency here. Is that so hard to do? Apparently it is. Patricia Kennedy here in the Rain has told me my IQ points will go up dramatically if I ever buy a MacBook. I am convinced she is right.

So I have a quest with technology to at best be less frustrated as the gold standard.

Be an Old Faithful as a person to others and seek out all other Old Faithfuls in every area of your life.

Gary:  It seems to me to be somewhat ironic that you would write a post about looking for an "Old Faithful"... and then to submit that post to a group called "Crap" and another one called "Club Chaos."  What is wrong with this picture... LOL.

Karen Anne: Chaos and Crap are very faithful in my life LOL. I have already found them.

I agree with you on the technology.  1/2 the time it doesn't work...the other half I don't know how to run it!

Gary - I feel your pain. There are many times I feel I am spinning my wheels when it comes to technology.  Grrrr.

hi Gary, don't feel bad. Even those of us who are up to our necks in technology stuff on a daily basis get frustrated. It just seems to be "part of the deal". ;-)

It gets to the point where I get frustrated and come back to it another day; I think Pat has got the right idea about the Macbook.

Gary, I don't believe we could keep up with all the technology no matter how hard we tried...it's changing faster then we do :)  It's ok to me that it's just "not my thing" when there are so many more things I'd rather learn!

Gary,

I am not that mobile and do not have the problem of connecting to Internet from my car, and I still get my share of frustrations in the office. Always feels as if we outpace ourselves, and live in the Beta environment, where we are the testers instead of ordinary users.

I just bought a new computer.  Vista and Office 2007 and I miss my old standby.  I'll figure out where my files are and soon forget that at this moment I'm not a happy camper :-)

Gary, I'm working on my E-Pro designation, and I'm feeling like I'm on Mars.  It's like what I imagined a calculus class would be like.  And I get this thing in my chest that makes me want to scream!  What I like about my Mac is that, after a bit of a learning curve, it just does what it's supposed to.  There aren't as many software choices, but what they have does really do everything I need.  And they all pass the Pat Test!

Meanwhile, the phone and my little door opener are the tools I really need!

Yeah, I am stuck with Vista. I have issues with printers, not all are compatable. My very favorite one in my office had to go to the "office" computer, and I am blowing through ink on the printer I am using now like teenage girls change their clothes. Then, for some unknown reason, the main office computer lost Microsoft Office, so I couldn't print one damn thing.

I'm looking for old faithful too. :(

Macs, so I was told, don't work with the MLS system. Isn't that a kick in the pants? Perhaps they have fixed that little issue, but it is a moot point since I bought this laptop.

Hi Gary. Glad you enjoyed the little something I shared with you earlier. it made me laugh outload.

Since I have had my Mac ( after the short learning curve)I wondered aloud why so many would put up with the mediocrity of a PC if they actually experienced a MAC. Did my IQ go up 10 points? I have no idea. But I do know I don' curse as much ( just kidding ) with the technology. Gary, eventually I hear we  won't need a separate air card. Our iPhones with be the tether for our notebook or tablet. The NEW Mac Tablet .The newest product that is being researched by Apple. They had the first one ( the Newton) it was ahead of its time.

I can't help but to wonder what's next. If we could have a 4G aircard inserted into our body, it could be the conduit for all technology of the future. Walking hubs and I really wouldn't mind  if they could bury it deep enough. It could even act as a remote hospital if we get sick, need an pacemaker or whatever. I suspect eventually this might also be possible. I don't think the antenna would be all that convienient though, lol.

Good Morning Gary,

I AGREE wholeheartedly. In fact, if someone is not reliable, I lose trust in them. The same goes for technology, I need to have tools that are reliable and do what they say they will do, otherwise they will be replaced.

Great post!

I never really look for old faithful when it come to technology, I look for that feeling in people. As long as I have people I can trust and rely on, I don't worry much about the other inconveniences.

Gary,

I feel your frustration. Reliability is everything to me. I depend on people doing what they say and I in turn keep my appointments and do what I say I'm doing to do! Technology does what it damn well pleases. Our email is in the process of changing and is sooooo frustrating. Good thing I have lots of closings to keep me out of the way as they figure out!!

Gary I completely understand how you feel - everything with technology is one step forward and two steps back! I haven't found a way to connect to the internet outside my house on a consistent basis yet - I am thinking of getting the ATT ACER.
