SC - Important Legislation

May 26, 2007 -- If you own real estate in South Carolina (or are considering doing so), two very important pieces of legislation have moved forward this week that will affect you.

H.3157 (a/k/a "Quick-Evict"), legislation allowing for the expedited eviction of a tenant, received a favorable report in the Senate Judiciary Committee this week and moved to the Senate calendar for consideration. Quick-Evict is of particular importance to South Carolina property managers, as current law allows for evictions to take up to 40 days, which is far too long - especially in emergency situations.

H.3820 (Insurance Reform), formally known as The Omnibus Coastal Property Insurance Reform Act, was officially referred to the Senate calendar on Thursday. The Senate will likely take up the legislation next week.
