Dangerous Habit...............

I will be the first to tell you that I liked the pre cell phone days.  I liked be able to be invisible for an afternoon or weekend.  Heck, even a night out with no interruptions was great.  Times have changed, as have people's expectations.  Clients expect to be able to talk to you when they want to talk to you.  It is a concession that I have grudgingly made over the years.  You have to have a cell phone if you want to list and sell houses, even in Cedar City, Utah.

I will also admit, I am still fairly new to the whole hands free movement.  I have the blue tooth ear set that allows me to push the button to make and answer calls.  It is great!  I can still keep my eyes on the road and use my hands to drive the car.  I know that studies say that your attention still is on the phone call and not the road, "but 2 out of 3 aint bad", to quote Meatloaf.  I write that tongue and cheek, I do believe in following laws and if there are laws saying that even hands free isn't allowed while driving, then I will follow the law.

That being said, Darcy and I were driving back to Cedar City from Salt Lake City this afternoon.  We were in the beginning stages of rush hour, and at freeway speed, in heavy traffic, there was a guy texting in the lane next to us.  I couldn't believe it!  Even if he is the most capable texter in the World, how dangerous can you be?  What is that important that you can't just make the call and move on, without texting?

I get the whole "you snooze you lose" thing, but you crash and die, you also lose!  The only problem with the latter, is that usually you take someone with you in the process!  Please, don't text and drive!  It is scary when you're in the lane next to someone doing it, I sped up to put the other car behind me, so that if he did wreck, odds were that he wouldn't hit me in the process.  I know that is selfish, but self preservation is important to me!

I guess that I just don't understand what text could be so important as to crash over, or what client wouldn't understand if you take time to pull over to read the text if you text back, "sorry, I was driving, I would normally answer sooner."  Just my two cents!
