You are in sales of real estate, of your local community, of your brand, your company image.
Everything you do builds on that message whether blogging style, angle of your imagery, the graphics, the video and the heart/soul of all you do. Nowadays with Facebook, My Space, You Tube and a gazillion other options to get the message beamed worldwide, is what you do haphazard, helter skelter? Or do you plan a part of your real estate day to that structure of that message. Consistency whether its the size and color of the font, the logo or the storyboard blueprint for your video presentation is important. Style, the way you write, speak, shoot video and edit. Everything builds on each other component. Like a musician, do you create real estate music that stands out, is heard above the noise of signals bombarding the customer, the browser or surfer? Do your newspaper ads match the feel, the spark of your blogs, your video presentations? Why not?
The Who had a song. "Who Are You?". Folks in the 1960's talked about finding themselves. Are you lost and now you are found? Found on the internet, everywhere a person looks, turns, reads, watches and listens? Why not? Not important? Real estate is just a hobby, all fun and games and just happens on its own? You like being the last horse out of the gate, doing a so so job and personal job satisfaction in your community is not that important? Bull crap. Effort makes a sense of accomplishment, a feeling of a job well done and reminds you there is more work to do, to be the best, stay on top. Isn't that the kind of drive, desire that makes going to work..no matter what your job is, a rewarding experience? And isn't a happier worker a happier family member, mate, community person? It's all a balancing act, a direction you want your life, your job to move.
It makes it easier if you define what image you are trying to create and you need to know what market niche you are going after? Specialized, general or different speeds depending on the application? Like a world class athelete, different game tactics and discipline depending on the need from the game coming at your from the other side.
Day in and day out, time to make the donuts so to speak. But not in the same old same old way.
The way you start your real estate day and events through out it make you a different, more experienced professional at the end of that day. Or it should if you are serious, eager to learn new ways to market your property, your local community and your brand....to market you. Tell them your life journey, your real estate story so they know they are dealing with a real life human being with emotions, goals, hopes and dreams just like them! Come out behind the real estate curtain in your Emerald City where you live now.

When I opened my brokerage in 2005 . . . the most difficult and time consuming tasks were not getting Department approval or setting up the office.
It was designing my logo and deciding on a name! For all the reasons you stated. Building a brand from the ground up that would be consistent with how I roll. I agree that some if not a lot of thought must go into that. Broker or agent, a 'mission statement' comes before strat planning . . .
Good post! (i still need finish the one I told you I would) HAHAHA (editing stage still, along with other ideas in my file!) :)
There's so much involved in setting up a brokerage. I left Prudential in January to start my own. Love the freedom to be me. Nice to design things how I like them to be. This is the best thing I ever did.
Candice..anxious to read that post you promised. We are people peddling property and not robots Charlie. Lizette...go fo you. You will make what you worth, and now as the fastest runner you will be allowed to win. Let us know how are making out, how all of us in here can help and learn from your experiences.
Excellent advice on using video to introduce yourself. Consistency is important that is why my blog, photo blog and web-site all look similiar but have different goals in mind with each of them.
I have always been such an independent soul (like most of us in the business). It was part of the evolution of my real estate career to start a brokerage when the timing was right.
Now the marketing focus and defining (refining) niches is a continual improvement process.
Missy...we know she sells property, is a pretty active blogger but do we really know her? We will if we follow your listings, your videos, your blog posts and link up on Facebook, Twitter, here at ActiveRain! Dare to show the person, the personality all of us have and salt/pepper it thru out all your do. Your unique flavor needs to shine thru.
I do not think many are successful at branding themselves at all. All too often on an agents website, Blog...you cannot tell what they stand for, who they work for or if they are really in real estate because they are so far off topic.
Sometimes the missing the target is because the target has not been established. Many thrown money at a site, blog, marketing splash but you can't beat the fellow/lady who rolls up their sleeves, does it themselves with lots of heart, soul and direction.
