How to Beat the Texas Heat...Jump In!!

Well, I am thinking there is a strong case for being able to cool off from the summer heat in south Texas by taking a dive!  I have had so many clients coming in from other states who said "we have been told you have to have a home with a pool if you are going to live in the Houston area".  And that seems to be people looking in all price ranges over $150,000.  And hope springs eternal for those under.

Pools help sell houses here.  Period.  There are the few people who don't want the expense or maintenance, but most families dream of having a pool.  It's the "resort at home" feeling that it gives.  Times are tight for many, and when there is a pool, the kids don't mind not leaving the back yard.

Many people will take an inferior house to get the pool.  I'm not taking about dilapidated, defective houses, but the little wallflower houses, or the ones with a goofy floor plan or that back up to a street.  I am always amazed at that, but they will.  I have referred clients to pool companies so they can price putting in a pool at a "better house", but they think it is just too difficult and expensive.  It is not that expensive or difficult in this area.

In 2005, I went to check on installing a pool at a property that a client in California was thinking of buying...absolutely had to have a pool.   I drove to the company that is always on the back of our TV guide, just to get an idea.  Lo and behold, I decided "I" needed a pool, because it was so affordable.  Finance it for 25 years at 6% (that was the rate then, may be better now) and bingo!!!  Pool in 45 days.  Best move I have made since making the move here.

If someone is trying to sell a home right now or in the near future, it may be a challenge to install a pool and recoup the price, but if they have a longer term goal to sell, and might enjoy a pool for the short haul, I suggest that they jump in and consider installing a pool; basic, saltwater, with a small waterfall feature, or take it to whatever level their budget and heart desires.  Swimming, anyone?
