The ActiveRain Ambassador Program

Today we are launching the new 'ActiveRain Ambassador' program for members of the ActiveRain community.  We have been kicking around the idea of setting up this program for months now and think we have finally come up with something that will work well and benefit ALL members of the network.  What is an "ActiveRain Ambassador" and how does this program work?

Since the inception of ActiveRain, there has always been a "Pay It Forward" spirit amongst our membership.  Invitations sent out by members were often followed up with courtesy calls to help new members get acquainted with the basics of the site.  As new members joined the community, others who had been around for a while would welcome them by commenting on posts, sending a quick email with suggestions of how to improve, even picking up the phone to call those in their area to say "Welcome Aboard."  We have always had 'ActiveRain Ambassadors', lending a helping hand in whatever capacity they could to get "Newbies" up and running, we've just never had a formal program to reward those willing to give so freely of their time.

The Ambassador Concept and Our Culture

The new 'ActiveRain Ambassador' program will be a formalized way that our ambassadors can call and welcome new members of ActiveRain to the site while at the same time walking them through some basics of the site, including the RainMaker upgrade, and sharing their experiences. Many times it takes new members some time before they figure out the nuances of the site and how it can have such a positive impact on ones business. Having someone to guide you through these first few days and someone to reach out to if you have questions was the foundation of the early days of our network. This foundation is still solid but the shear growth in numbers makes it hard for every new member to find the guidance they need when getting started.

We are going to make sure they get that guidance from the members who have been here for years already making it rain in their own businesses. We want to allow these new members access to the veterans of ActiveRain who have seen the bottom line of their business impacted as a result of their participation on ActiveRain, and we want to reward (a monetary reward......although, TLW, we will probably pay you in shoes) our 'ActiveRain Ambassadors' for helping us indoctrinate new members into our culture.

Here's an outline of what it is and how it will work.  Your feedback and comments are always welcomed!

ActiveRain Ambassadors

"One more step in becoming the social hub of your local real estate market and industry."

  1. Unanimous approval from AR Staff “Ambassador Advisory Council”
  2. Must have three examples of your Blogs at the top of Google.

  5. Maintain a minimum level of monthly participation. Required deliverables will be communicated in Independent Contractor agreement all ambassadors must sign
  6. Ambassador position is teaching and support focused. Ambassadors will each receive compensation when new members that they call sign up for Rainmaker accounts, but 'hard sells' will not be allowed. Again, this is a teaching, networking and support focused program.

Ambassador Program Benefits:

a. Public recognition, AR Ambassador Badge
b. Structured program to grow your professional network
c. Free Outside Blog
d. Free Localism Sponsorship
e. Link to Ambassadors Roster from AR Home Page
f.  First in line for AR swag (logo t-shirts, etc.)  All provided for free to Ambassadors.
g. Special events at industry conferences for Ambassadors.
h. Additional recognition for top Ambassadors.
i. Access to Ambassador Program Funds to support grass roots gatherings, training
classes, or events, created/hosted by AR Ambassadors.

Signing Up as an ActiveRain Ambassador

Many of you already value the time you spend on ActiveRain and you do some amazing networking through the site. This is a formalized way for you to continue to utilize ActiveRain for some amazing networking opportunities while at the same time taking on an Independent contractor role where we can pay you for helping to train the next generation of ActiveRain Blogging Superstars.

Just imagine being the go to person for hundreds of agents in your area. The networking effect and impact of that kind of exposure is too good to pass up!  :-)

THis sounds very interesting... I'm not sure I have time to talk with a couple of hundred new people a week.  How do you plan on splitting up who contacts how many people?

This sounds cool!  Now...do I dive in or not?  Not sure I am the ambassador type???

3:55pm • #2

Donna,

We get about an average of 175 sign ups a day. We have thousands of people who have previously signed up. We have built a system that allows people to target new members in their area. You can call as many or as few people as you would like. If you could only set aside five hours a week, then you can contact new members based on that. We hope to have enough people so that each member is only contacting a few people a week. However as we build up, it's possible that preliminary ambassadors will be able to pull just about as many as they can handle. It will certainly not be your 'responsibility' to call everyone in your state.

Another cool program to help people get started. As your network has grown by leaps and bounds, I think it is cool that you look to those "within" to help others.

Congrats on another good AR idea.

Look, Mike Jones is already in... What a perfect person for the job!

Kathy,

We are terribly sorry this issue has not been resolved. Our development resources are 99% focused on a pretty hefty upgrade to Localism. We would hope that your enthusiasm for ActiveRain extends well beyond the inability to get photos uploaded. For some reason I am able to upload photos using the firefox browser. You could try that.

Mike,

You will be a great addition for sure! And as a networking tool, this is really up a loan officers alley!

Kathy - thanks, we'll do our best to get that corrected right away.

Mike - make sure you submit the form, this is a great opportunity, I can personally guaranty it.

Great idea, Mike.  I could have really used the mentoring during the first week!  I've got a loooong way to go, but I'll get there eventually!

William - looking forward to your August submission.

Erica - that's the plan exactly.  Making new members feel warm and welcomed here.  Our "Pay It Forward" culture working at its best!

Very interesting concept.  This is huge for AR as the "sale" is really a referral from an existing member, thus increasing the odds of the sale substantially.  Now, do I have the time, if approved? I can not answer that now.  My time has me stretched thin......so how then do I want to be?  I will ponder.......

4:39pm • #17

Erica - was that still in there?  haha..  Too late to take it out now.  That's too funny.  Still waiting for TLW's comment too, I'm sure I'm gonna get it for that one.  I'll just blame it on Bob!  :-))

4:40pm • #18

Tim - time is the greatest gift one human can ever give another.  Though I really do understand it's value, the rewards in most cases are immeasurable.  Call me if you have any questions, this ambassador is always available and will make time for you if needed.

Roland,

And anyone else stuck on the 'three posts at the top of Google' requirement:

If you have an 11 as your answer to the last question, don't get hung up on the Google requirement. Throw your hat in the ring. This is something that can be taught and our first training we do with our ambassadors may help you tackle that hurdle right away. We are really after people that are excited about their participation here as that excitement can not be taught. That's the thing we want to pass on to the new members.

Brad - what a wonderful idea.  I would have loved a call and some help when I got started on AR.  I have been having such a wonderful time on my blog, connecting it with my other social network sites, and beginning to reap the benefits that my company had me do an ActiveRain presentation to get agents started.

I have recruited 17 so far. I have had many posts that have been at the top of Google also. That is reward enough for me, btw. I will apply later when I meet your requirements. I don't have the points either to qualify so I'll just continue my little 'behind the scene' style to promote and answer questions when I can.  It's a great idea for newbies!  I know there are many video tutorials that have been produced so what about organizing them into a step-by-step process (beginning to advance) under a group of its own..."Video Tutorials for Active Rain Newbies"...or..."Everything you always wanted to know about Active Rain, but were afraid to ask".   Seriously, for me, the best way I learn something is by 'show and tell'.  Just an idea I'm throwing out there!

Brad - I'm sure you already knew that I would throw my hat in the ring for this.  Sounds like fun - I filled out the application!  I was hoping for a job as community builder, but this is a nice first step.  ;)

Victoria - that's awesome, let us know if you need any additional followup or help with that.

Rebecca - this applies to many of the folks who have been here, not just new members.  You'll find out more soon if you signed up.

David - you are a great candidate, submit it to the council, then Blog and comment your butt off, meanwhile, I'll see how stiff the rules are going to be about the points, I see Bob is already bending from the 3 google posts.  I agree with Bob, an 11 passion for AR beats a threesome on Google. :-)

Donna - awesome and thanks, I think you've put alot into this community and have seen first hand the unique values and rewards to be found here, what better type of member than yourself to be out there helping others.  So many of us do this everyday anyway, now it can just be much more rewarding for both members.

Heather -GREAT Point!  Now, maybe we can get to all of them before they have the chance to ask or post about it.  Now that's a goal I'd love to accomplish, it would sure make for more quality content on the network and alot less question type posts.

Don - fill out the form and submit it.  There's a committee or council to review all this, Just Do It!!  :-))

Teri - love your idea and we're working on something already.  I think you'll be quite impressed.  We have already had a couple webinars, but I don't want to give up all the thunder here, submit your request anyway.

Brian - don't worry about the 3 google posts right now, as Bob said above "Passion vs Google" passion wins handsdown.  Trust me.

Patricia - you would need to invest some time, but for the return, i think you'd find it very much worth it.  We don't want anyone to feel like this is about selling or promoting, it's all about "Paying It Forward", helping members, and allowing the natural course of "Paying It Backward" to take place for our Ambassadors.  My opinion?  This is shear genius.  Implementing it is just the beginning and the fun part.

Brad - This is a FANTASTIC idea. I think we lose some of the new members because they just don't understand it and/or don't know where to start. Having a mentor is an idea that would really help spark the activity of the newer members. Kudos to the AR staff for such an idea and implementing it.

I never knew these positions were available but think they are a great idea. It's all about leverage.

My very first day of on Active Rain, I received a call from Bob, and a few after that which were encouraging (and pacifying due to my blogging naivete). To be honest, I don't know if I would have continued without the support and personal touch.

I was VERY impressed and frankly, w/ over 150k members, have been wondering if AR was able to keep up such a "hands on" model.

It's more good stuff. Keep it coming guys!

I'm in too! Maybe I can find a post that got 11 spots on the google first page -    wait -    is there only 10 spots up for grabs? (organically speaking) I will be battling it out with Jason and Debe for a community builder position! As a matter of fact maybe you should sent all three of us to a secluded location for a week or so (I'm thinking Mexico etc.) to discuss this further...) ~Rita (what can I say I need a vacation!)

WOW! What an awesome idea!!  Even after being here for several months and feeling like I've learned so much, my brain is full to bursting and I just know I have so MUCH more to learn....the frustrating thing is I don't know what I should learn, and in what order I should learn it.

For example, just today I asked Lenn Hartley on one of her posts to explain what backlinks were and to ask how I could backlink my posts (an easier thing to do when you know what the heck it means!)

Anyway, long story short, Lenn was kind enough to drop me a note....apparently she'd taken the time to look over my AR blog and discovered I didn't actually have my website on there.....which meant no backlinks (linkbacks?) for me!

MAN!!  I had NO idea!!!

The wealth of knowledge out here on AR just boggles the mind....I am so happy and thankful to hear that you are finding a way to better harness it to help the newbies via your Ambassador Program.

The more we all know, the more we know....and the more we can all work together to power the Rain! Thanks again!

What a fascinating concept --with lots of info in the comments. Didn't know you could actually plan to get your blogs in the top 3 of Google- wouldn't know how to do that! although I'm guessing there is a post on it somewhere. Google always asks me if I'm spelling my name right! that's a kind of bummer!  I think it's a great idea to have personal contact -- I sometimes think about calling people whose posts I like - not sure if that is a good idea or not, as I really don't know them --  feel a bit newish myself. But I do think this will be very exciting for people. Even to know who ambassadors are as some might say it is okay for new people to call them with questions, or write them??? This is lots better than 'contact us' which I guess only gets used when someone has a problem.  Anyhow - cool!

Brad - This is a good idea.  It's taking the theory of giving the customer the real deal to a new level.  I have done similar work for RECR in terms of telling people what I think (as wella s Growth Leader) and it's a great help for new people who are just starting out.  Allowing a more experienced ActiveRain user to explain in their own words what makes it great without it being straight from the company's mouth is a huge benefit to someone trying to figure it all out.  Plus, since this was built as a community, the community aspect becomes tighter with all that personal contact.  Nice work, once again.

This sounds like a great program!  I am already an unofficial ambassador, and have been giving mini-seminars to groups almost since the day I figured out AR and the best way to take advantage of all of its benefits.

I have gotten several clients and some agent referrals directly from AR and continue to learn from the posts of others, hoping that I can share whatever I can too.  I don't yet have 100k points, but I know I will be there one day.  By the way, I would guess I'm at least a 12.

Now if AR didn't give me so much business, I'd have even more time to do "ambassadoring"!  Just kidding - keep 'em coming!

Hi Brad, I hate to rain on the parade because you have stirred up a lot of excitement.  I'm just going to give you my opinion, as long as TLW doesn't come after me with her spiked heels. I read and then reread your post.

"The new 'ActiveRain Ambassador' program will be a formalized way that our ambassadors can call and welcome new members of ActiveRain to the site while at the same time walking them through some basics of the site, including the RainMaker upgrade, and sharing their experiences"

I think the concept is great.  People love to be welcomed and embraced when they join something new.  (committee, Board of Directors, sports team, etc.)  I guess what I have a problem with is that I am supposed to be genuine but also upsell the Rainmaker program or features that will cost the member.

And will that member feel that I am being genuine when they know I am being paid, receiving perks from AR for doing it, etc.

I appreciate that you have specified as a rule that there will be no hard selling allowed.  But where is the line drawn between soft and hard selling?

I already consider myself an AR Ambassador.  Like many others here, I like to welcome new members, give them tips, encourage them to join groups, comment on their blogs, subscribe to their posts, etc.

I think after being here awhile members will make that decision whether to use the paid features that are available.  It takes awhile for new members to find their way around and figure out how they see Active Rain working for them.

They may not take advantage at first but they may down the road.  I think there should be somewhere for those considering these options to go and check out other members thoughts or success stories. A bulletin board of sorts.Maybe this already exists, sorry if I don't know where it would be.

The only other concern I see (for me personally)would be the time commitment.  Having to pencil in the time to put on my Ambassador hat to me, means it becomes work.

To me being an Ambassador means continuously promoting....whatever you are the Ambassador of.  You do it automatically, because you believe wholeheartedly in what you are doing. It is spontaneous.

Brad, you have had an amazing response and I'm sure you are doing this for all the right reasons having thought it out for the past few months.

You will have a great number of members sign up.  I will continue to do my own little thing cuz I would just have a hard time calling people and have them wonder if I am doing it just for the money and the freebies.

So instead of being an Ambassador I will just be the welcome mat.  That is, if you will still have me. :)

Wow... this is so great!  Just when AR is growing leaps and bounds, this program is developed to stay in touch with all its members. That just shows the true heart of Active Rain. I am very proud to be a part of this wonderful community.

12:23pm • #148

Jenny,

I had to jump in here because you brought up some very great points and I wanted to give you our thoughts on them as we always do a pretty exhaustive sit down with our team and look at the pros and cons from our members perspective prior to launching something, anything really. (Brad's on the phone helping someone, I swear that thing is connected to his ear during the week.....)

"I guess what I have a problem with is that I am supposed to be genuine but also upsell the Rainmaker program or features that will cost the member."

This is one of the reasons that we are looking for people that truly value their participation on ActiveRain and really 'love' (strong word, I know but we want passion at the very least) the time they spend here. If that's the case, being genuine is a given! The upsell of Rainmaker is simply a 'hey, this is the way things are, you don't have to pay and you can still reap the benefits of networking with 150,000 of your peers and learn from some of the most progressive people in the industry'

Since people now have to pay in order to have their content indexed by Google and displayed to the 2,000,000+ visitors a month we get on ActiveRain, it makes sense to have someone explain in detail to them exactly what they would be paying for. Should they choose not to pay, there are still lots of benefits.

We probably should have made one of the requirements 'would you pay $29 a month to be a Rainmaker on ActiveRain?' My guess is that the people that have reached the 100,000 plateau and have a true passion for ActiveRain realize that the value they have gotten from the site is worth WAY MORE than $29/month.

"I already consider myself an AR Ambassador.  Like many others here, I like to welcome new members, give them tips, encourage them to join groups, comment on their blogs, subscribe to their posts, etc."

We are forever indebted to any member who has gone out of their way to help another member out. It is a culture that we worked very hard to promote from the very beginning of launching ActiveRain and something that was one of the fundamental seeds for why we even decided to take on this venture in the first place. The formalized process makes it so that we can reach every member that signs up. Unfortnately even though we have lots of people doing the same thing as you, we are just not reaching every single new member that signs up.

"It takes awhile for new members to find their way around and figure out how they see Active Rain working for them."

We believe that by having someone there as a mentor that this process can be greatly accelerated and new members can share in the rich experience of ActiveRain much quicker. We also believe that there are many people who come to ActiveRain and are very overwhelmed and don't even know where to start. Those members never give it enough of a chance and some never return. Some of our most engaged members found ActiveRain only to not return for 4 months, 6 months, 8 months. We think had they been given a reason to get engaged the first day they found it, we would all be better off for having been exposed to them for that additional time. I have no question this program will engage hundreds, if not thousands, of people that would not otherwise have stuck it out in an effort to figure it out.

"I think there should be somewhere for those considering these options to go and check out other members thoughts or success stories"

ActiveRain Success Stories

This is something we will certainly have Ambassadors point people toward. Just imagine, as a new person how would they ever find this on their own if you have never seen it (even though it sits on the front page of the site)

Quite frankly, I was expecting all of these things to be brought up much earlier in the thread but wasn't expecting it to all come from one person. Thank you. This is important stuff.

We have a rather large problem on ActiveRain. Our levels of engagement are pretty low compared to what we believe is possible. Formalizing the process was something we felt like we had to do. Unfotuntately we don't have the resources to hire enough folks to make sure that every new member gets orientated to the site in a fashion that we would be proud of. We felt like harnessing the collective passion of our membership in an effort to maximize the overall vitality of the network was something that demanded that we also share the potential rewards.

Taking a social network from 6-8% involvement up to our absurbdly high goal % is going to be hard work and something that we are prepared to pay our members to help us do.

Jenny, I like being a welcome mat (in a rather chaotic, unique, diverse way - LOL). I think each Ambassador will have to discover their own way of dealing with each specific member he or she contacts. Hard and soft sell is subjective to the person the opportunity is being presented to. What may not be viable today, may be viable with the next closing, bonus, or part time job to supplement their marketing habits.

I gave up romance novels so I could blog. I had a $300 book and software habit I had to kick to the curb (LMAO). I have relatives who spend more than that on monthly cigarettes, so I'm not going to debate vices, budgets or habits. People place their bets or put their money where they see fit. If they wake up one day and decide they want to be the next version of TLW, Lenn Harley or Jason Crouch, then they are going to study the writers they admire and make an executive decision. None of us in the Rain ever know when someone will pick up the phone and say, (1) hey, I read your blog and I need your help, (2) come join this group or (3) come check this out because I think this may be useful to you.

Melody Botting was pretty insistent with her very helpful e-mails. I was trying to figure out what the hell she wanted before I realized she was really trying to be my friend and save me from myself (ROTFL). Yes. It's true. I needed a blogger's intervention from the you can't have fun and be professional police.

No one paid her to train me, but if I could I would. Tried to once and she playfully cursed me out (LOL). You may not think that is significant, but she hooked me up with new construction builders, taught me how to jack a blog, emailed me an entire business plan because I was new and clueless and didn't know I needed one as an agent, has been my accountability partner for over a year and we speak so much my hubby told me to get a room (LMAO). I am very proud that Melodious is the boss of me. If the Ambassadors are anything like my Bay-bays in Club Chaos, then I say bring it on, sign me up and lets get the members blogging beyond the norm.

People need to figure out what they want. When they do, that's when they go after it. Sometimes it takes one conversation. Sometimes it takes months. Mel took months with me and still is my best gal pal in the Rain. I'd follow her lead anywhere because I trust her.

I can not imagine my life without my virtual family in it. It is now inconceivable to me because my virtual friends are a gift from God and our relationships matter. That's why we're converting them to brick and mortar. I would wish that every newbie could have a mentor that cared about them like my mentors care about me. Paid or unpaid is apples and oranges. However this program turns out, no matter how many members come and go, my advice is to not squander a single moment of connecting with what may turn out to be a divine appointment.

This network isn't just about real estate. It is so much more to the bloggers who get the power of the Rain. I support it because it's brought value and love into my life. Friends are the family you get to pick for yourself. Helping your friends can be priceless. BTW, doing business with your friends is a heck of a lot more fun than not (LOL).

I trust ActiveRain. They are a business with a very interesting vision. The question is, will we follow them to a higher level together or will we hurt the thing we love by demanding more and giving less in return for the sacrifices they've made to keep their company going? I like it here, so I'm gonna be like you and try and stay helpful. You are right about an Ambassador continually promoting. Isn't that what every single one of us do all day anyway? Difference is, when you read Brad's post you'll see the theme that they're looking for is people who love the Rain. When you truly love someone or something, it's not hard to talk well about it at the drop of a hat. Love does that. It makes people not be ashamed to express the joy of the feeling. I think they're going to do well with this. BTW, I hope you apply. :-)

Brad, please excuse the mini-jack (LOL) ;-)

Brad  I signed up and am eager to start.

You say, "on top of google"  I assume you mean number 1 position for the search term - those are what I used.

Also, can you use localism - I didn't, but localism ranks vey high

Brad,

You are absolutely right. This would be a great job for a lender.

But I don't understand the whole listing router thingie.... will there be training?

2:11pm • #157

oops, I was logged in as someone else helping them out. What I meant to say was:

"will there be training?"

Yes, there will be training. We have already taken about 10 people through the training so we are getting that structure down. There will certainly be an opportunity for you to ask about any features that you are unsure about.

Brad and Bob --- I have just signed up -- please don't laugh when you see my post that come up on the Google search.  As I stated on the form, I 've signed up for Katerina's class on SEO in September --- I have the passion for AR and have a lot more knowledge than the newbies, but not nearly as much as the oldies.. I think this is an awesome ides.  I don't even care about the money --- most of us would do this for free.

BTW, please take a look at a recent post that I wrote: Motivational Monday. I'm trying to get out a message. Thanks.

Thanks for listening.

HI Brad!

This is a great idea! I am happy for the new rainers who will have this support.

Question: will a list  be available with these AR gurus in each area so we can contact them directly if we have questions?

Liz, I am soooo checking out that link. Got your Google Juice flowing, eh? My girl! Wait 'till I get to SC. When I visit my Mom and Dad I am soooo disrupting your day (LOL). If I am really lucky Jeremy will bring his family and cook at the BBQ with me. We're gonna jack my parents house for an AR get together. There's only one rule: stay away from my baby pictures! Hi Brad,

I think this is an exceptional idea and you have plenty of qualified lifers who are qualified and who I hope will jump at this chance.

As for me, I will continue to sing the praises of joining this community to all the real estate agents and pre-licensees I touch every day.

Brad,

I just returned last night from a wonderful weeklong vacation in Cancun.  The beaches were beautiful.

Do you think you could make me the Active Rain Ambassador to Mexico?  I'd be happy to visit new members personally.  And while I don't speak Spanish, my wife speaks fluently.

If not Mexico, I'd be happy to help grow the Active Rain network in some other warm tropical locale.

I think many of us have been doing this for quite a while so it won't be difficult to give it a title.  I tried converting my entire old office in Pasadena last January but had a tough time getting them to write!  Anyway, I may not qualify as most of my posts are ranked on my own blog higher than AR...does that matter?  I'll see what I can find but if I don't qualify officially I will continue to encourage folks anyway!

our ambassadors can call and welcome new members of ActiveRain to the site while at the same time walking them through some basics of the site, including the RainMaker upgrade, and sharing their experiences.

I've been an Active Rain Ambassador for three years.  It's good marketing to call potential referral partners and introduce them to Active Rain, regardless of the title

Love the idea and wish it was in place when I joined.  I've been a member for awhile, but still feel like a newbie, or maybe a veteran newbie, but definitely not an oldie. Would I qualify for an ambassador's help? Maybe you'd like to consider an intermmediate help catagory?

10:15pm • #181

I'd love to do this.  My point total is way to low.  Boo-hoo.  I have a unique platform to help promote this and even get new members to sign up.  If I was involved in writing a book that included several pages on Active Rain and even taught Realtors classes on social networking would that count.  HMMM

Brad--one question--with all of these responses--roughly around 120 or so that would like to be ambassadors--how are we going to keep off of one anothers' toes here?  Suppose TLW and I select the same 'newbie' to welcome and mentor, unbeknown to the other?  In this case, I'll probably get shot (jk) but, how are we going to move forward--be 'assigned' new members or what?

As Diane said, many of us have been doing this for quite some time and I know that many of us will be true to the system regardless of the 'title' but, we don't want to create friction between loyal members!

Just food for thought...

OH, did you set Jason straight yet?!!  LOL

@Jeremy yes you did call :) this was much later than we had originally signed up. (sorry don't mean to hijack...) I think this 'program' is important as we too first signed up long time ago and then left for an even longer break until we returned. Would we have "stuck" around from the start had somebody been "guiding us" - probably. I think I mentioned Jeremy a few other ideas I had for newbie retention some time ago - lol (buttering up for the community builder position that will open some time in a distant future). ~Rita

I think I'll fill out the form. I just keep wondering, what about all the people who have already helped the newbies, through the Newbies groups? Shouldn't they be given some form of recognition for what they've already been doing, out of the goodness of their hearts?

12:24am • #187

Mike  - be sure to fill out the form and submit it.  Thanks.

Mama Liz - your passion is evident.

Hi Brad...Real estate is a personal business and the Ambassadorship program fits nicely.
Kathleen - thanks, I totally agree.

Nyssa - you can sign up for the newsletter on the right side of my Blog here.  I will send you an email copy of the Newsletter you were featured in as well.  You will receive the newsletter daily once you sign up for it.  Congrats again.  :-)

Chris - the newsletters are not kept online, they are created in an outside program and then emailed to members.  If you let me know the date, I have been saving them for months and would be happy to forward you the copy you are looking for.  Just let me know.

Alex- just be sure to fill out and submit the form. Thanks.

Karen - does not have to be the top of google, but in the top 2-5 is great.

Brian - pack your bags!  lol~

Roland - you nailed it. "Building relationships, helping others and a little fun too."

Jeff - we'll have posts to assist Ambassadors and we are already doing training and webinars.

Diane - yes, many of us have already been doing this for a long time. Now, times have changed and our growth here continues to soar.  You'll see many comments here that say "I wish this was here when I started" so that tell me though it may be long over due, we're certainly on the right track here.  :-)

Kimberly - call me, I will help you. 707 718-6773 at your convenience.

Brian Brady - you said "It's good marketing to call potential referral partners and introduce them to Active Rain, regardless of the title"
Now that's a profound statement, and I couldn't have said it any better.  Thanks.

Lora - everyone has a place here in the community and everyone finds their way to provide the best value to other members and their readers, associates, and subscribers. Ambassador helpers are everywhere and we'd love your help in any capacity that works for you.

Mike - would love to see that book.  I think there is huge value in each member and the way they approach supporting and helping other members.  Just like Blogs here on AR, each member is unique and have a variety of gifts and talents they can share.

Debe - not to worry, we have a plan and a program in place that will prevent that from happening.  This is just the roll-out, there is so much more to come. It has been well planned, and we're confident that this is going to work great thanks to our members, not us.

William - yes, let it rain, let it rain!  :-)

Lisa - yes, absolutely.  This could be the first place you start calling even if just to say thanks for all the support to the newbies.  There are so many new members daily that don't even know the newbies group exists.  The Ambassador program will help us as a community to reach out to nearly every member sooner, and share this great information with them instead of waiting and hoping they find it on their own eventually.  The rewards and forms of recognition you mention will be great in this program.  There is alot of truth in the statement, "It really is better to give than to receive!"

To everyone - thank you so much for all your responses, comments, support and ideas.  I wanted to respond to every one of you, but my poor little fingers and brain are done for today. I'll be back in the morning and also calling many of you, so till then, keep the submissions coming and thanks again for being willing to extend a hand and lifeline to those members in the "rain" who might otherwise sink without it.

This community and network is great, but it's the members and YOU that make it the BEST PLACE TO BE if you're in this industry. :-))  Thank you all.  :-))

Brad - I can only imagine how busy you are right now.  I'm willing to bet the response has been a bit on the overwhelming side.  Perhaps you need a personal Ambassador that will help you?

In response to some of the comments of "I already do this" I thought I'd add that I think many people have been doing it for a long time, but this is a great step forward for the company and the community.  This is a great way to systematize the process and give something to those that are helping build ActiveRain bigger and stronger.  It also will give you (ActiveRain) a way to measure the effectiveness of the evangelist in "converting" the new "I-like-ActiveRain-but-I'm-not-sure-of-its-value" members to "Honk-if-you-love-ActiveRain" members.  It took me some time to see the full value of ActiveRain after joining (and I don't think I've even used it to its full potential yet) and I can imagine that a little guidance from the Ambassadors will only help the new members.

As well, if the new members are informed that an Ambassador will be in touch (which I assume is part of your plan), they will immediately feel a sense of being welcomed.  Since ActiveRain has a lot to do with community and fostering and encouraging new members (something I see everyday around here), this "welcome to ActiveRain" approach will only solidify that feeling.

I'm sure it will also free up some of your time to work on other projects as well.

Can't wait to see how it all works out.

When I started reading CTS's blogs I could tell right away she is very smart.  She pays attention to the details and is passionate about her work.  However, I could also see she wasn't actively building relationships.  I contacted her to give her my opinion of how she could utilize AR to obtain all the benefits.  Now look at her!!!

Howdy there Brad

I submited my request to become an AR Ambassador. I always look for new members of our fine and fun community, to give them a welcome. And have helped many folks here in the community. Sure have made a lot of really good friend in the little over two years of being a member. I have been an Ambassador with Chamber of Commerce's that I've been a member of, in a number of Towns that I have lived and worked in. When your an Ambassador of the local chamber, you are not paid to do it. I have always enjoyed new business owners and business that have moved in to Twon. I sure would not let ActiveRain down. You have my word on that!

Whoa! I finally made it to the bottom of all the comments. I don't know how I missed chiming in on all this.

I really appreciated Jenny's post and the response she got from Bob.

I usually tell every realtor I know about AR. I've learned so much here and met so many really nice and helpful people...that no way would I have ever met without AR! I've even made it to REBarCamp because of AR. Gosh, I have so many local friends from AR that I see weekly, and many AR friends that the local friends and I know by first name only...Clint, Jason, C, Marchal, Krystal, Ricardo, Jay, Jeff, Brad, Lenn, and so many others. It's all very cool, and I know that every person in the RE business will gain from their association with AR.

I am one of those folks that Bob talked about...started with AR, and didn't understand, or know what to do. But, while at a conference in Phoenix, I met Jay Thompson and Ricardo Bueno. Talk about your AR Ambassadors! What great guys they are to take their valuable time to share with me some of their knowledge. After my visit with them, I went back to blogging on AR, and have received all this Rain. And, to this day, Jay and Ricardo are still teaching me and others like me.

I am no where near 100K...and it's going to be quite a while before I get there. But, I do like the idea of someone reaching out to the newbies. But, like Jenny, I don't like to encourage some one to use something that fits for me if it's going to cost them money and might not like be suited to them.

Well! There's my 2 cents! LOL

Marianne - Thanks so much for your comment, I really appreciate it and it really got me thinking, so here I go...   :-)))))

I'm glad you had the chance to see Jenny's concerns and Bob's response.  I don't think I could have said it any better or made it any clearer.  This is not about selling something to someone who may not even need it any way.

You had said, "I don't like to encourage some one to use something that fits for me if it's going to cost them money and might not like be suited to them.

Part of "Ambassadoring" (if that's a word   lol...) simply means extending a welcome, and helping members determine what it is they are after, why they are here, and what they expect to get from being here.  It may require a moment or two of fact finding.  Some of our more experienced veteran AR members might be able to assist new members in obtaining and achieving their goals much quicker and more efficiently.

Example:  Nyssa above has written nearly 20 great posts that bring super value to the consumers in her community and area, but since they were "members only" posts, the audience they were intended for was not getting to see them.  I respect and value her time and could see she had clearly invested much of that time into her AR Blog.  Her time is money!  I merely called her to welcome her and explained how AR and the Rainmaker program works.  I did not try to sell her on anything to get any personal gain, I sincerely saw her potential, made sure of her intentions, and simply wanted to share and show her how she could achieve what it was she started out here to do.

Why? Because I honestly didn't want her wasting any more of her time or efforts here.  We can't put a price on the support and direction that she may have needed that I or another member "ambassador" could or is willing to provide her.  What's worse, she may have not even known she needed it, whatever that help or support may be.

Encouraging and supporting others doesn't have to have a monetary reward nor does it have to cost someone else, sometimes just helping people, creating bonds, building trust and growing relationships IS the reward.

I hope others will see this Ambassador program transparently for what it truly is and for what we are trying to accomplish here.  Activerain is about helping people, paying it forward, sharing and building relationships.  The business that can and does come from it is just a by-product of our great members and the culture here.

If someone calls you, asks for help, and asks you why you are here and what you get out of ActiveRain, I don't see any harm in you telling them.  Instead of waiting for someone to call and ask, we're just being proactive and making that call to them first. We need more people to help do this because Bob, Jeremy and I just can't get to all 200 new members everyday.  We now have "ActiveRain Ambassadors."  This will also help free us up so we can take the time to help assist and support our top members, and focus on building and creating an even better Activerain Network and Community.  It's all good.  :-))

Ambassador:
results from a google search....

  • a diplomat of the highest rank; accredited as representative from one country or person to another
  • an informal representative; "an ambassador of good will"

Steve - whatever time you feel it takes, is the "right" amount of time.  This has to work for you as much as it does the receiver.  :-)

MY HEART LEAPED when I read this. I did get stuck on the google search thing, so will go try & figure that out. I appreciated Bob's response to Roland on this, so I'm more encouraged. You know I love you, Active Rain!

Brad - very cool concept. I'm looking forward to hearing experiences from the new ambassadors and the new members that dealt with them. Y'all really have your stuff together up there at AR!

This is an interesting concept. I noticed a few Ambassador logos today, as I was writing my comments.

This sound very interesting and I don't think there is any one from my area - but don't have 100,000 points :-(  Guess I will have to get busy blogging or wait until you open it up to lesser points :-)

Hey Cathy - as you probably know, this is a new program we're launching. This is just the first round of ambassadors selected.  We still have many others to go through and hope more will consider joining us.  Take a moment to submit the form, there are a lot of things being considered as Ambassadors are being selected.  We are currently working on some of the backend training and support for our ambassadors in an effort to help ALL members to benefit.

It's about passion and paying it forward much more than it is about points.  I think the points criteria was added just so we'd know that there was some time and effort spent by the candidate member here in the rain.  It would be hard to have 100,000 points and not have 100,000 success stories.   As far as the areas where ambassadors are located, we hope to eventually have one in each area AR is represented, that would be all 50 states and beyond.  Some areas are much larger and will require more than one ambassador.

We'd love to see more members like yourself wanting to, and getting involved with the ambassador program.  It is already making a HUGE difference and in so many ways.  Every member is already an ambassador on AR in their own right, this just makes it official and the rewards a bit greater. :-))

Thanks Brad - I am going to do it but have a busy few days since I am covering for 2 people on vacation and this is one of my busiest weeks.  I am the Realtor I am today because of Activerain - I have no doubt about it!!  When you say one per state, we do have Missy - I was thinking we don't have one in the Metro Detroit area - so don't know if our area is big enough for two :-)  We shall see. . .

Brad, I missed this last week since I spent the week wearing a boyscout uniform and sleeping in a tent!

I tried to fill out the form and things froze up on me so I am going to do it again, it surprised me how easy it was to find 3 blogs that popped up on top, in the past I have only googled my name and knew that it gave me huge google juice since many past clients have found me via AR.

Looks like we need a mortgage guy in the mix!  lets hope this time my computer doesnt kick me out!

Brad - What a great idea! I would have loved something like this when I first started in the rain.  I read posts and gradually learned my way around.  However I would have gotten up to speed much sooner if someone had called and I had had a person to talk to.  Luckily I quickly met many wonderful friends through commenting on their blogs and asking questions.  Then I was off and running.

A question for clarity, though...do you mean that our blog entries have to be #1 on the first page, or does it just have to be on the first page, period?

12:33am • #245

William - any placement on Google is just a portion of the criteria, your passion for the network and helping others is just as important. :-)

Considering that I have only been active here for a few short months, I don't know how helpful I've been, but I do try :-)

And btw, you didn't really answer my question! One of the criteria states that three of our blog posts have to be at the top of google...so does that mean #1, or #1-10?

And trust me, Brad, if anyone has been accused of being "married to the computer" like I have, then passion for AR can't EVEN be a question...it's already a given!

William - Let me turn the question back to you.  Are your posts showing up on Google?  #1, #10, #30, maybe page 5?  To help others be successful, it helps if you are doing it successfully yourself.  The criteria really isn't that stiff, we're even taking the time to help train and support the ambassadors who fully want to understand all this so they can help others benefit from AR as well.  Call me if you have any questions, it may be easier to go over details and explain over the phone. Too much can get lost in the translation of text in a comment. :-))

I've been promoting AR on a regular basis throughout the Triangle!  My business results in the past 3 years are astounding given I was new to real estate in 2006 when I joined AR.  I would be a great Ambassador to show how agents can double their business year over year in a down market!!!

As you know - I don't need the training!  I know how to get the Google Juice - Time is my only obstacle!

Tracy - I'm convinced you'd make a great Ambassador!!  Not just because you said it 3 times...(LOL)  But your sincerity, passion, and drive come through loud and clear in your comment.  :-))  Hope you filled out the form, there is always time.... we'll can show you some tips that may help.

It seems as if there are already ambassadors amongst the crowd who share and collaborate without the recognition. I would hate to think that someone is just helping out because they are being rewarded. That's just my thoughts.

5:09pm • #258

James - you are correct, everyone on AR is an Ambassador including yourself.  No one in this arena is helping out anyone just to be rewarded, (I would hope) if that were the case, they wouldn't really be an ambassador.  However, those that want to represent AR labeled as AR Ambassadors is a choice we want to give them, and the rewards that come from doing so bring so much more than just a monetary value.  Becoming the Mayor of your community both online and off is a good thing.

I appreciate and always welcome your thoughts, thanks for sharing them. :-)
