Bridge under water

I need Robert Hammerstein's Ark, but I don't want the hail that followed the rain in Bob's New Jersey location of Bergen County.

By 11:30 Erie, PA had more than 5 inches of rain since 8:00.  More rain has fallen since.  This photo was taken approx 1:00 between downpours. Will the bridge withstand the force of water racing down Trout Run on its way to Lake Erie about one mile away.

My beautiful path leading into the woods is under water

Below is the same path from different direction on sunny day

Around Erie many roads were blocked by high water and basements flooded.  For more stories about Erie's go to www.yourerie.com Local news.  One photo showed water up the windows of SUV.  More than one person had to be rescued from stalled vehicles.

Bridge is completely under water--see log sticking up

If necessary the Yonkers will rebuild the bridge.  This is the third bridge in ten years.  We raised the supports on the banks, but I guess we didn't go high enough.  I will post an update later.

Updated 7:00 pm  Bridge was still in place, and the water was starting to recede.  The ground on both sides has been eroded away.  I feel very fortunate that our home is twenty-five above the stream so we are safe and dry.  Many others in Erie County are dealing with major flooding problems in their home or basement.

Linda--right now that beautiful scenery is under water, but tomorrow is another day.  Fortunately our house is about 25 feet above the stream.  Thanks for visiting and commenting here.

That running water looks a bit treacherous!  I hope the rain as subsided.  Keep us updated.

Irene--the water rose even higher than these photos before it receded.  The ground on either side of the bridge has eroded, but the bridge is still there along with lots of mud on the path and in the field & woods across the bridge.  When I can get down there again I will take pictures.

Bob--thanks for the ark!  We are safe in our house about 25-30 feet above the stream.  The water has receded, but much of the dirt on either side of the bridge has eroded.  In between rain storms today I hope to get more pictures.  The ones I took this morning didn't have enough light due to the dark clouds overhead and all our trees.  We appreciate the use of your ark, Bob.
