Og Mandino is one of the best authors I have ever had the chance to read. Og Mandino also wrote an amazing book called "The Greatest salesman in the World." Mr. Mandino had an amazing way with words and is brutally honest in his books. In his book "The Return of The Ragpicker" a friend of his that is extremely street smart has Og Mandino take notes one day and had Og Mandino put it all to writing. The excerpt in the
book is entitle "For the rest of my life.." Absolutely moving and enlightening about how an individual was so caught up in his past thinking about it, and at the same time was wrapped up with worry and fear and consumed at what the future could or would bring him that he never lived for the day. On day he just became acutely aware that the day he was in at that moment started with him and it ended with him that day. Simon Potter just came to the conclusion that he must make the best of each day.He said "In order to harvest more bushels of corn in fall it is best to plant more kernels in the spring". If you ever want to read an amazing book go to your library and check out "The ragpicker". It made me take a step back and analyze what happiness is. It has nothing to do with money and material things; it involves others and the way we interact with them. To be happy with dieing a decent man. Procrastination can be so defeating if one does not address it. It can manifest and grow in you like a malignant tumor. It has to be dealt with and it is never too late to attack it. When we put everything in the proper perspective and we are happy with the day we are in it all becomes a little easier to make those 2 calls a day to out past customers, it becomes all that much easier to prospect for new business and just pick up the phone. Isn't it ironic that in our Industry we can have loved ones and relatives yell at us and let us know how they feel and we let it fall on deaf ears at times. Yet, if we face even the slightest chance of rejection by calling a complete stranger it can paralyze our thoughts and motivation? The simplest of game plans and writing a "ten things to do today list" and checking it off accomplishes miracles. In a day of hard times that we live in it is easy to agree with people that the sky is falling. I would like to think we just allow us to get a little too close to the sun like Icarus. One of the single greatest things I have done in my career is find someone I can call in the morning and call them
later at night to make sure I am held accountable for what I set out to do in business that day. My grandmother used to call me "Tom Braatz, the manana man" Tombo everything is tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow is another day. Well grandma I am fortunate to have had you and your sisters in my life. I am proud to say I am not the manana man anymore. I am finally at peace with myself. Tap your talent for all it's worth and never let go of what you believe in. My Sensei once said to me "He who does not know and knows he knows not is a child; teach him. He who thinks he knows and knows he knows not is a fool; shun him. He who purely knows that he knows and is happy is a wise man; follow him. Is this the day we take a step out of the box and say no more; I am defining my game plan in life and business, and we do it? Someone once said "If the airplane Industry had grown as fast as the electronics and communication Industry we would have been on the moon the day after the Wright brothers flew their plane." Godspeed.
