Creating An "Awesomest" Profile With Links Is Important

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Zillow

To my pleasure, I opened my Tweet Deck this morning and saw this Tweet from @TeriLussier:

This sparked my curiosity as to what is an "awesomest zillow profile" looks like, so off i went to see Teri's profile.  I posted it below, or you can follow the link to Teri's profile.

The first thing you'll notice is that is visually appealing and full of good content.  Great, if someone goes directly to her page.  But how do people get to this page and cause such a Tweet to be written?

Notice all the rich keywords.  What you can't see is that all these links and keywords are "followed", meaning that sites like Google and Yahoo see them and index them.  This helps people find Teri when using a search engine.  The words you highlight and link matter to Google.  So linking "click here" isn't doing you any favors.  Not all profiles on all sites are followed.  But by doing a search for Theresa Lussier on Google, you can quickly see why this matters.

So make sure when you build a profile on sites that follow links, like Zillow, you are taking that extra few minutes to fill it out completely and insert links and video as it can make a huge difference to Google and your readers.

That guy with my name at Golin Harris crept into the #2... and the singer in NY got #5... but I got the rest of the page.  But I need to work on reshuffling to get the "right" profiles higher up...

Oh gosh.

Okay, so here's the thing: Zillow lets users off its site. You don't hoarde eyeballs. Zillow seems to understand that it's okay to reciprocate the love, because that creates passion for the product. I've heard the whining about Zillow stealing our information, but what I'm hearing from the people who contact me from Zillow is important for us to pay attention to.

Zillow users- potential clients- seem to love Zillow because it's third party information. That is, Zillow isn't R.com- the information there is not exclusively real estate industry created. Clients trust Zillow more than they would trust a big bold "LOOK AT ME!!!" website.

I do see a few opportunities to boost my blog a bit more in that search, and I need to update the Zillow profile information, so thanks for that little kick in the pants, but. like Zillow users want multiple sources of information, clients who google me are also looking for multiple sources of information about me. They tell me they looked at different profiles and links before they ever picked up the phone. Customers have lots of choices these days, and they aren't going to settle.

And since this post will probably begin to show up in searches soon. Thank You, Sara, for the props. :)

Great post, Sara.  I've got so much to learn about bloggin, Twittering, Zillowing, etc (not to mention how to get it all to work together) and I'm thankful for all the great advice I've seen in the AR community.  Today I plan to work on my new website and try to figure out how to incorporate social networking into it.
