Success Failure Sign

Ask yourself if you would have continued fighting if faced by the following set of circumstances. For someone to meet such obstacles & continue on is amazing:

·     1832 Failed in business- Bankruptcy

·     1832 Defeated for Legislature

·     1834 Failed in business- Bankruptcy

·     1834 Defeated for U.S. Congress

·     1835 Fiancée died

·     1836 Nervous breakdown

·     1836 Defeated in election

·     1848 Defeated for U.S. Congress

·     1855 Defeated for U.S Senate

·     1856 Defeated for Vice President

Hey Dan-

the only thing I can think of is an inspirational quote from Ferris Bueller's day off  "  There is a freedom in being totally screwed...because you know things can't get any worse!"  So what the hell, when you keep getting kicked keep on truckin' and eventually something will work out!

I love the Ferris Bueller quote above.  As far as the giving up goes who would want a president who hadn't been tested.  He learned from his mistakes.

Very good point.  Even as President he was ridiculed and suffered many set backs.  His life and marriage were sad.  He lost 2 children, one in the White House, he was estranged from his oldest son.  But he is probably one of the greatest Americans ever or men in history period.

OMG, our next President may be a failed real estate agent.  OK, a bit over the top, but Abe's story has always blown my mind as with each failure he reached higher.  The norm is when one fails they try again, not to try something greater.  In real estate terms, it could be an agent who tried for $10mm and then said, rats, I did not make my goals; let's shoot for $20mm.  What a mindset...
