I Ate An Avocado For Breakfast

I don't know exactly what compelled me. I hadn't bought an avocado in years. But then I bought one, and the next day I ate it for breakfast. I cut it in half, rotated the pit with my knife and scooped it out with a large spoon. Then I put some salt and key limejuice on it and ate it. It was incredible.

As I enjoyed it, I couldn't help but think what a refreshing change it was: the smooth texture and the saltiness against the tart lime. It all went so well together. "Why don't we eat these more often?" I wondered. I am from a place where the traditional eggs and bacon diner fare goes for breakfast. But this was so nice. It set a different tone for the entire day.

What if I ate an avocado in my business? My relationships? Would my day be better? Or would I look at the world of serving customers differently? What if your approach to life was completely out of habit like eating an avocado for breakfast? When Galileo dropped various sized cannon balls from the leaning tower of Pisa he was eating an avocado for breakfast. He gave us some incredible insights about gravity.

I just listened to an incredible story about a father receiving a call that his teenage son had just driven his new Mercedes into a ditch. The eggs and bacon response was what the son was expecting from the father. Rage, shame, disappointment. But the father didn't do any of those things. He simply got on the phone, asked if his son was o.k., asked how it happened, and then said simply: "It'll be o.k. son. You are more important to me than the mistake you've made. We'll get through this. I love you."

Consider eating an avocado the next time a coworker infringes or makes your job more difficult. Or a loved one steps over a boundry. It's a liberating experience. I submit that every great advancement society has ever made has been the result of eating an avocado for breakfast.

Loved the post. Different. And I agree with your perspective. Let me know when you write the book entitled, "What if I ate an avocado in my business". I think it will be a best seller.
