26 Comments on My Personal Experience with Getting Listings Crawled by Google
Justin, you painted quite a picture of the whole procedure. Impressive! One question I have... how does the whole NAR debate over the ethics of indexing/scraping listings come in? I think your discovery has GREAT potential - and you can count me in as a customer - once the ruling comes down on that.
Hi Margaret,
My understanding is that the ruling won't come out until November, but at the national level, the prospects actually look pretty good. As far as I know, MIBOR is the only board that is not allowing listings to be indexed, and my guess is that the other boards will wait until the ruling comes.
Some of the statements made in D.C. in March gave me hope that NAR as a whole is going to allow it.
The whole thing is ridiculous, and my hope is that the powers that be will see that.
Justin, I have to read and re read to digest this. I am going to go look at what you are talking about. My first thought was... I want this! LOL, great job, and pretty funny about the phone number thing. Hope if he wants to sell he will call your dad...
I want this... I want this A LOT! I would love to feed listings of garage properties in my primary market. That would ROCK. So, either give me a call to tell me how to do this, or release the video series... I'll volunteer to be the tester to work out the bugs!
Test, Test and Test, then sell it as a business model. Good luck with it, wouldn't mind testing it for but in the end you have to have a way to get paid.
The other thing would be to just hire yourself as a Consultant and for those of use that use WP.org blogs we I could would hire you to do it on my site.
Are you up for it?
Justin I have been following the MIBOR story and Weichart is already doing this. I get Google Alerts all the time from them in Ann Arbor and it looks like address, city, mls number when you click it on it takes you to that listing but it isn't Weicharts lisiting it is IDX.
I talked to Paula about it and she said they had been told to stop but haven't.
Go for it....
Hmm - DIY or have it done for you. I'm so tired of doing everything myself (I design all my own sites and work my own blogs), I would LOVE to see this as a system that I just plug listings into and it rocks without my involvement.
Bring it on!!!!!! Please.
I just went and checked out a company that did this for WordPRess... dayum. That was pricey...
Hey Lane,
What company was it out of curiosity?
Justin,
Okay. You've got me. I WANT this thing!!
OK, where do I sign up. Definitely a must have. Let me know when your available. Thanks!
Justin, I like the referral concept as well as consulting for a fee provided it is reasonable
Justin,
I agree with Missy, sell your solution. And if you don't want Google flooded as you mentioned in your post., make it an exclusive to brokerages by market area.
""Create a bunch of sites around the country and use them to farm leads and create a referral network."- I wouldn't recommend this one, it's tricky business having a national referral network and selling this as a product to brokerages would generate income on the front end.
Way more straight up.
I think you should sell it by territory. Can I have mine?
I know what Missy is saying about Weichart doing it in my area also. They start and then stop.
Justin,
What did you decide to do about your listing plugin?
Hi Michelle,
Yes! We actually just launched a beta version today. I'll be writing about it soon, but you can check it out here: www.PropertyIndexer.com
interesting...good luck
I'm sold, where and when do I sign up?
Hi Byron,
you can check out propertyindexer.com for more info...
Justin, I've written you directly for more information. Coincidentally, I've been getting set up to offer Wordpress blog installation and setup for my Point2Agent web site design clients, many of whom already have DS. They will be excited about your plug-in.
