On Saturday, May 10th, the Villa Park Instrumental Music Program held its 6th annual car and bike show.  Admission is free to lookers and it's a wonderful way to see some fabulous cars, wild bikes, and eat breakfast or lunch at the event.  This year there were 130 entrants who paid of fee of between $30. and $35.00 to exhibit and show their cars or bikes.  There was a very eclectic collection of vehicles of all types and ages at the show with all sorts of awards.

The chief judge of the event was John Marconi of the Marconi Family Car Museum in Tustin.  Other dignitaries included the mayor of Villa Park, plus Directors and Principals, and all gave out awards.

Just a few of the more than thirty awards were Best Restored Vintage Foreign car (won by Peter Giacobbi with his black vintage 1958 Alfa Romeo)  Best of Show (A wild looking Corvette), Principal's choice (given to Bill Baker of Villa Park, who also got the Topless award for the best convertible-a restored cream color Cadillac ).  In addition there was a Trick  Truck Award plus an Oldie but Goodie award given to  Durrell Corry for his sleek black 57 Chevy Pick Up.  One of my favorites was a child size red hot rod-made to look just like Grandpa's life size red hot rod.  Grandpa used a one horsepower motor and lots of parts from a snow mobile to make this great kids' hot rod....and guess what? It can go 30 miles per hour!

The main coordinator of this successful event was band member Phyllis Beam.  She did a fabulous job.  Members of the instrumental program, parents and boosters all helped out.  They served bacon & eggs and pancakes for breakfast, and burgers and bratworst for lunch.  The groups under the Instrumental Music Program who benefit from the show are:Marching Band, Drums and bugles, Drum LineJazz Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Color GuardOrchestra and Symphony.

It was a great event!  Put it on your calendar for next year-usually Mothers' Day Weekend
