DQ - If I could figure out how to put it in slow motion, I would. I tried various camera settings, but I need a better camera to capture it better. It is on my wish list.
Sharon - I have two feeders on my porch and both of them attract the same amount of activity. I tried taking down one of the feeders to see if I could get more in the shot and I got buzzed by one. It was so close I jumped and screamed out in surprise. That's what I get for messing with their food. LOL
Andrea - Yes, they are aggressive little buggers. They will turn on you if you mess with their feeders, and will buzz you like a torpedo. They are nesting here too, because I can spot the juveniles. They tend to be more territorial than their parents. It was hard to tell, but there was one little male that was the dominant one of the bunch in this video short.
Hi Judy ~ That was an amazing video! I rarely see hummingbirds. You've inspired me - I'll have to get a special feeder.
Liz
Liz - You will be rewarded ten fold. The feeders are inexpensive and the formula is 3 parts water to 1 part sugar. Depending on where you are, it can take a matter of minutes to attract them or several days. I am pretty rural, so it doesn't take long to attract them. Once they find a known food source, they will come back year after year. Enjoy.
Judy, the title of my book is Metamorphosis. It's somewhat autobiographical, but most of the locations are changed--I'm a native of GA. Much of the story takes place in your area. Unfortunately it's somewhat difficult to find as my publisher went broke, yet wouldn't release me from my contract--it does expire later this year and I may try to have it published again. Thanks for asking.
John - I can only imagine the effort that went into your book, only to have your publisher go under, and worse not release you from your contract! It sounds like there is a good chance for later this year and I hope it is a huge success. Best of luck.
I would love a bird feeder, except my dog Duke loves chasing birds. Have a great 4th
Steve
Steve - Duke would be one tired little dog if he chased these birds. It would probably drive him (and you) crazy. I can see why you don't put up a feeder. I hope you enjoy the 4th also.
Judy,
I also love to feed and watch the hummingbirds every year! Often there are so many zooming around we have to duck! They are great fun, and bring back so many memories of my grandmother! They were always her favorite too!
Have a Happy and Safe Holiday weekend!
Judy
Judy,
I love watching hummingbirds and I appreciate you sharing yours with me this morning.
Judy - Thanks. I am sitting here typing and can see one of the feeders from my computer. They are at it again this morning. Just beautiful.
Don - I am happy to share this with you too. Have a fantastic day. shhh, don't tell anyone but the sun is actually shining here and it looks like it might stick around for more than a few minutes! Yahoo. Have a Happy 4th of July.
Judy, aren't they great? Ferocious little guys that seem to be standing still yet are so fast... and they don't like to share! Enjoy your 4th of July weekend!
We have a lot of aloes on our property which the hummingbirds love. Almost any tubular flower or red/orange flower will attract them, which is why hummingbird feeders are red. They're so much fun to watch.
Jim - We have an abundance of them this year. The babies are now flying around (hard to tell them apart), and I can not keep count. We are having a hard time keeping up with filling the feeders. They bring us so much enjoyment. Thanks for stopping by.
