As self-employed individuals, finding the motivation to get up early isnt always easy but remains the best source of 'Time' on the planet today.

"Yes come to my seminar and I will teach you the three beautiful words that are the reason for my success in Real Estate"  - Tom Vu, 1990's infomercial

My three little words are not the same as Tom Vu's and you do not have to come to my seminar, I don't even have one yet.  I first heard of this concept at a Keller Williams seminar where the things in common that top agents do was being discussed.  They actually said that Top Agents get up early, you should have seen the eyes rolling and laughs and smiles on that one!

For me getting up early is a bit easier then for most as I have a bad back alarm clock that wakes me up bright and early every day so I turn this lemon into lemonade by using the quiet time in the house to blog, research, SEO and read the AR mail.

So today's Top Agent advice is get a bad back up earlier and gain that time you keep running out of, there is nowhere else to take it from, trust Tom Vu with his three beautiful little words or trust me with mine.

GET UP EARLIER

Scott:

I agree getting up early is a must. I find that I accomplish the most when I get early and early for me is it is between 3:30AM, and 4:00AM. Happy 4th.

Scott, I'mreally struggling with this. I'm not a morning person and I see that my valuable quiet time ) when my baby sleeps ) is wasted when I'm not waking up early. I'll try my level best from tomorrow. I wok eup @ 8:00 today :-)

It is easy to get up early these days because the Sun  rises early. I find it difficult in the winter.

I'm an early riser and I love that quiet time in the morning. I get my balance for the day and because I work hard all day, I'm pretty much an early to bed as well. As long as I'm not in an Offer situation that is

Suma: Like everything it is a habit that you get used to, I have a nice comfortable home office and like Gary Keller, I surround myself with the things that inspire and keep my brain busy cause that is the way I roll :)

Gita: No doubt, Winter time, especially in a northern climate like Vancouver, makes for a short day.  I always take solace in that at least Im not like those poor people in Fort St John or further North that get very little daylight all Winter.

Jennifer: I havnt mastered that early to bed part yet, it seems to come a bit easier with age but not much of a change for me yet.  My back only allows me to sleep 6-7 hours tops anyway then the pain wakes me up, I think my sleep cycle is set in stone.

Hi Scott ~ Ever since I found AR I've been hitting the hay *really* late - so early mornings are far less likely.  It got so that my body was so used to 4-5 hours of sleep that if I went to bed earlier I would automatically wake up 4-5 hours later - no matter the hour.  I'm still looking for hours 25 and 26.

Scott- There are actually two kinds of people; larks and night owls. They both have their own strengths.Research has shown that this is actually in our genes. So we should stop forcing people to be who they are not and stop forcing people to work in their unproductive hours. The research in Europe on this is so advanced that they are now thinking about having the larks work in the mornings and the night owls take the night shifts.

I am a night owl rarely going to sleep before 3 a.m. and waking up at 9:00 a.m.

I get my best work done after 10 p.m. I write my blog articles at this time. I comment and do all my social networking after midnight. This is when my creative writing juices start to flow. This is when I am most productive.

I have a routine and it works for me very well. Don't even talk to me before 9 a.m.- you may not like my choice of words then:) Katerina

Katerina:  I used to think that intuitively as I thought myself a nightowl.  What lead me to change my ways a bit was the revelations of research into what the top Real Estate Agents in North America have in common.  This research is found in the book, The Millionaire Real Estate Agent, written by Gary Keller, Dave Jenks and Jay Papasan.

One of the commonalities of the top, top Mega's (forget top 1%, we are talking top .01% here) is that they start early in the day.

Dont ask me how this translates into Real Estate success, because I can not tell you with certainty what the answer is.  I suspect it has to do with mindset, a brain swirling with Real Estate and good inentions early in the morning is one charged up and raring to go when the phones open at 9am.

I am a big believer in using the wheel already invented, The MREA is that wheel for me.

Scott- I love that book and we use that as our business model mostly. If this works for you and it proves beneficial to your biz then I am all for your change.

Nestor is the early morning person in our family. I am the night owl. Makes for a perfect partnership.

I like Winston Churchill's statement, ( he never awoke before noon:) )

If God wanted me to see the sun rise he would have it rise at noon. :)

I am the creative side of the business, the marketing, negotiating, the writer, the creator.
Nestor is a numbers and facts kind of guy, appraisals, market evaluations, pulse on the market, etc.

When I see the research; I see that these many times coincide with whether one is a lark or a night owl also:)
