Wishing You a Fun & Safe 4th Of July!

There are  many exciting things in the way of 4th of July celebrations in and around the Portland Oregon area.  Fireworks, food, friends and fun are at the top of every persons list today.

Because there's more to Independence Day than just 4th of July celebrations, many travel this time of year as well.  Just a short drive to the beautiful Oregon Coast there are many communities along the beaches that offer interesting little events and happening around the holiday. In fact, this is the time when the Oregon Coast shows the world just how much the area has to offer beyond exceptional scenery... You'll find 130 miles of Oregon Coast participating with 4th of July shindigs as we speak.

While you have to be prepared for major crowds and traffic, you can still plan to spend the day at the beach, take in the fun and watch a simply breath-taking display that is sure to be something you'll remember forever...  If you're looking for a place to stay, you'll have to make sure arrangements are made well in advance this time of year - camping spots however looks to be still an option.

Right now, we're writing a quick post from beautiful Lincoln City, a fast one-hour drive from Sherwood Oregon.  We came here for some birthday fun and to experience the 4th at the beach.  The weather is perfect, the people are friendly and the beaches are filled with sand castles, kites, families and tons of crab nets.  The air is fresh and every once in a while you can smell the aroma of Smores coming from a nearby camp fire.  The Gardner family (and our dogs) are loving every minute of it, as everyone is from the looks of it.

One of the biggest 4th of July events happens right here in the Taft area of Lincoln City along the beachfront on SW 51st Street. One of our favorite places to stay is the Looking Glass Inn by Mo's, overlooking the ocean and events.  Fireworks will begin at dusk and the launch will be from the Salishan spit across SiletzBay. This year's program has been ramped up, featuring "bigger and better" fireworks, according to the visitor center. This will include a majority of five-inch shells, providing a big burst along with the boom. Previous years have used three and four inch shells.  2009 promises something new and a sea of people will be expecting quite a show this year!

From our family to yours - "Happy 4th of July"
