My Florida state representative Scott Plakon emailed out an alert yesterday about this new resolution that just got introduced into the Florida House.  Florida HM19.

The resolution reaffirms that the people of the State of Florida do have sovereign rights granted under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as listed in the Bill of Rights

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."

Granted that Congress, the Office of the President, and the Supreme Court have for decades continued to trample over these rights and overreach their bounds by asserting the Commerce Clause of the Constitution, but non-the-less the 10th Amendment is still part of our governing documents.

They are trying to get at least 1000 signatures on this resolution by the end of the weekend and are already at 700 something as I write this.  On this Independence Day I kindly request that if you live in Florida to please take a moment of your time to put your name on this resolution. And even if you read this after the 4th of July, please sign on to it anyway.  We The People need all the help we can get to protect us from the radicals in Washington.

Many other states have passed similar resolutions recently.  Here is a quick list. I don't know how much good this will necessarily do. However the louder and greater in number our voices are, the more Washington will listen.

Here is the website to sign the resolution.

Happy 4th of July to you and your family!  God Bless America!

Rob, considering the Florida Legislature hasn't done a very good job of managing the state's money, I would say we'd be better off keeping our monetary ties to Washington, that is unless of course you actually like all the new "fee increases" we are going to have to pay

Terry - While I agree that the State hasn't done a great job in managing money at least the budget is balanced which is very unlike Washington who has something like $11 TRILLION in debt now.  Unbelieveable!  It is a lot easier to keep a bunch of part-time state representatives and senators with term limits in check than it is to keep the ones at the federal level in check.

I actually will be quite surprised if 20 years from now the U.S.A. as a nation is still intact.  All that has to happen is for China, Russia, and a few others to stop loaning money to the federal government and its creditworthiness along with the value of the dollar will basically vaporize.  Then what?

Good post;  Can't sign the petition not being a resident of Florida, but would if I were.

Kenneth - 20 something other states already have similar petitions going around.  You should check and see if there is one in your state.

I have hate politicians and all they stand for period. I don't some of the people that are politicians but the profession stinks and should be abolished. Our founders did not intend for offices to be careers. All political jobs should be on a voluteer basis or at the most minium wage, isn't that what they give to the people. Most holding office even locally are millionaires so volunteering would be their way of giving back to the people that have paid them so much by buying what they are selling or providing.
