The Donald has come to town, and he clearly made his presence known last night!

Donald Trump and his son, Eric, recently purchased the Lowes Island Golf Club in Potomac Falls, Virginia, which is about 3 blocks from my house.  The club and courses border the Potomac River, and across the river is a Maryland state park, so the views are beautiful.  Needless to say, the club name was quickly changed to Trump National Golf Club.

Trump

Last night, the Trumps hosted quite the 4th of July party.  Security was tight near the club.  One can only imagine what Washington, DC and PGA diginitaries were in attendance!

Word got around the community that there was going to be a fireworks display, so after our own little neighborhood display of legal (read: boring) fireworks and sparklers, we all started to head over in the direction of the club to see what we could see.

We didn't have to go far - only to the end of our block.  We couldn't see everything, and a few houses were in the way, but it was still a great show.

Thanks, Mr. Trump, for a fantastic finale to our 4th of July!

All the best-

Monica

Monica the DONALD looked at commercial investment property in our area also, but passed.  Boy the locals were excited and did all that they could to entice him...now it's in foreclosure.  Who knows maybe he'll "rescue" it...LOL.

Ginger,

Well, a lot of people didn't even know the local golf club was up for sale, and the next thing we know, Eric and Donald Trump are having press conferences!

I personally have not see The Donald, but I have heard the story about how he had his driver take him to the Subway sandwich shop in the little shopping plaza up the street, and go in and get him a sandwich while he stayed in the car.  At least he's supporting local businesses!

We're all hoping that he really makes a go of this golf club investment, as we've been told that our property values will increase significantly within the next 2 years.  I'm not holding my breath.

Monica that sounds like a familiar story that was going on in Fresno.  He was looking at a commercial development and golf course that never made it off the ground.  I know that the city invested a lot of time and effort into getting him interested over a couple of years.  Wouldn't be surprised if he outsmarts everyone and gets it for a song through foreclosure.  Subway...hm, that's interesting.

Monica,

We were there as members who joined back when it was Lowes Island  Club. I have to confess I was pretty skeptical, but he really did a great job with the whole evening.  The only dignitaries that we saw were The Donald and Jason Campbell (my 13 year old son got photos with both).

We will see if our pocketbooks can deal with the new owner. I suspect the dues will go up sharply.  The club used to be owned by Chevy Chase Bank, which was always kind of a strange situation. The owners tried/thought about buying it, but a club with 2 golf courses on the banks of the Potomac was more than we could all put together.

Holly - I'm glad you had a good time on the 4th!  With all of the security and police cars, we thought Obama was going to show up!!! HA!

The thing is though, now, is that the Donald has set a precedence, and we all were wondering if he's going to do a 4th of July bash every year with fireworks?

I have also heard that the dues were going to go way up.  I wonder how many people are going to be able to continue as members if that happens?  I guess the club is supposed to be in competition with Congressional now.  We'll see how that plays out.

I also heard that Eric Trump bought one of the homes up on the hill that overlooks the course.  Makes sense - if he's going to be overseeing the club, it would be nice to have a place to go home to.

Like I said above, I'm just waiting for our property values to go up.
