A gold star means nothing.............

We lose focus to the opportunities to increase our business as a member here in the rain

Why is there so much importance thrown it's direction.

  • Does it mean quality?  .....perhaps...not always
  • Does it mean money in your pocket....not usually unless a Localism, public blog
  • Does it mean recognition?....well we are getting close.

The  emphasis on what it takes to attain the elusive gold star, at times  becomes a goal that is perceived as a gold medal.  The value in the gold star is the " Feature   Status "....

There is no doubt about it. A  blog that is featured will draw..more attention, more comments, and it appears longer on the blog roll.

The " Gold Star " and  the " Whys " are no doubt the most misunderstood, unacceptable, judgmental opinions here in the rain

The question could be more the " whys ..than the...Who " gets the blessing of the shiny award from the star gods.

  • Why is it given to a new blogger with a short, very little content, no graphics and maybe a whisper of a thought?

Could it be...to draw attention to the blog. to say   welcome    want to support you, keep on blogging?

  • Why is it given to the controversial blogger who stirs the pot with strong opinion with their post.

Could it be to prove this is an open forum and opinions can be expressed freely.

  • Why does it seem like certain status members have permanent gold stars.

Could it be they have something essential to our success here in the rain and we need not miss  the blog

  • Why is it quality blogs slip into the  unknown with hardly a comment?

Could it be that there are hundreds of blog post and if we miss them so will the  star givers.

  •  Why is it we see the same bloggers receive the same recognition over and over again?

Could it be they continually offer their expertise on their topics by sharing what they know to enrich others        Maybe we should add our gold stars to theirs in appreciation for their commitment to quality in blogging, or at least add a comment to recognize their efforts.

My opinion these star givers should be given " Gold Stars "

and maybe the "  gold star " should

lose some of  it's member imposed importance.

Maybe the focus should be on what is being posted  by your favorite blogger.  Sometimes attaining the gold star becomes the goal far more  important than it should be.  If it comes..it is appreciated ....

but in reality it isn't a gold medal.

June absolutley!  It's been nice to recevie a few gold stars but that is not what I'm after.  I hear lots of talk about all that and ok - but what about building your business?  That to me is what it's about AND meeting so many wonderful people and sharing so much expertise.  WOW.  What a gift this ar platform is, et??

Hope you had a delightful 4th of July Holiday!

Anna Banana

PS  Did I mention to you that your picture reminds me of my Mom?  The first time I saw you it was eery - you could be twins!

Thanks Anna  I am glad I remind you of  your mom maybe that is why there was an instant " Like " with you

My mom passed away during the 4 th of July holiday.. so the holiday carries some sad memories for me.  I did enjoy the day with my daughter and family so it was nice.  I was thinking today how close relationships become here in the rain.

It is amazing that through sharing one's thoughts you could form such strong bonds.  I was in chiurch today and thought about Lisa's daughter's operation  and Phillips daughter's chemo and I thought.  I really do not know these people but yet I do and they are so important.  It is amazing isn't it.  BTW  If your mom doesn't mind, sharing you , I would be honored to have a second daughter,  I only have one and she is my very life }

Hi June - I have gotten a few and it is always an honor to get one, but not the reason I am here. Perks of getting one?  Getting to network and meet more people here in the Rain or talk with those that I already know and also staying on that blog roll longer  which may or may not improve my attractiveness to Google....

Each moderator has their own perception of what a good post consists of. I'm sure they have their favorites as well...human nature.

The drive for points seems to be a better driving force for more writing (or gaming lol) although the main focus is (and always will be) the drive for business. We gear to the consumer mostly but writing for our peers so they get to know us  is another. I do believe that's how we learn about each other and drive referrals to the ones we appreciate as true professionals.

Sorry your holiday is sad....Father's Day was sad for me :(

Hi Sally Thanks for your input and I obviously the more you know a persons style and blogging the more you know the blogger, so a moderator will understandably have favorites.  We as members have favorite bloggerss as associates so why wouldn't that make sense..... it does.  Sally I was told they no longer had moderators or  at least have cut them dowm.

I am not sure how I even heard that but I did somehow.

BTW Sorry for you sad Father's day.  Holidays are  tough on losses of the heart.

June - It's like a trophy you never thought you earned.  I've had a few of these subjective five-starred bastards in my time, and it does occassionally make me feel righteous upon receipt.  Though I should add that the motivation behind the earning is a tad suspect.  Which would one rather have, a gold star or a closed transaction?  Or both?  Maybe neither.  Heck, what if the person who receives that gold star only really wants to pour his/her heart out in the form of the typed word?  A gold star just makes it more commercial, shall I say/write.  Hmmmm, it will probably always be an issue and that's the nature of that beast.  I'd flag this post for a gold star, but I stopped myself.  I don't think you want this type of recognition;)  And if you do, that ain't the June Lewis that I love to read.

Boy -- we all love to be recognized.  Most of us work hard and we work long hours.  Often our efforts go without any recognition.  It is a nice pat on the back.. Here's to a gold star whether on AR or just in life!

Hi Joan  I hear what you are saying .. we all have that need to be appreciated and recognized.  It is part of being human.  I just visited GAry Woltal's latest blog And that blog puts a bottom line to it all.  Just what is important and how important is it...for how long..check it out..it left me speechless and that is hard to do.

June, I have a weird take on this. A Gold Star means something and a Gold Star means nothing. All your points are on the money but I have seen it in both categories and all the weird anomalies with similar Rainers getting every other or every third blog starred. Makes no sense especially the ignoring of the great ones from the unknowns. It is purely subjective and if nothing else is "entertainment value." Thanks for noting my recent post too. I love your commenting.

Jason ...you are among the special people here.  Your right about the star certainly it is always appreciated but so many people get so hung up on achieving this what...." status symbol "   not receiving that star does not make you less than any other blogger out there as far as what you  have to share.  Like you said someone wants to pour their heart out.  People want to listen .  Sally mentioned

Each moderator has their own perception of what a good post consists of. I'm sure they have their favorites as well...human nature.

and that is so true and that's OK , that's another reason why we shouldn't impose such importance to the star, there are so many variables that could determine the choice. Why make that your blogging focus?

As a recipient of many stars. when you write a blog..... is your focus on receiving a gold star.?...no..and I know I am right...it is about sharing what you do so well. You are an expert in your field and you want to share that knowledge and the gold star ( other than exposure)  has little to do with it   I guess I like what Courtney said " Its a perk "  our main focus should be business and sometimes I think this quest for the star takes the focus off why we are here    Thanks buddy...you are one of a kind.

Hi Gary,  you are very welcome...it is just one basic truth beautiful blog.

Leave it to you to put a spin on a subject and do it so well

A Gold Star means something and a Gold Star means nothing.

I think you have the answer when you say

. It is purely subjective and if nothing else is "entertainment value.

As long as we hold on to that our focus should stay where it belongs
