In Melbourne, Florida we've got a few food landmarks that shouldn't be missed.  One in particular is Mustard's Last Stand - the epitome of good hot doggery.  It's a hoppin', boppin' little place that's been in business here since 1987.

Whenever my friend, Gwen, and I are feeling cranky over a particularly sucky real estate day, (or just because) we head over to Mustard's for a quick hot dog fix.

We start feeling better the minute our order hits the table, which is always less than 3 minutes after placing it.  And delivered by a perky waitress with a genuine smile.

There are dozens of dogs to choose from, everything from the 'Eau Gallie' (melted Cheddar and fresh garlic) to the Downtown Dog (bacon, cheese, tomato and mayo) but my personal favorite is the chili, cheese and slaw dog.

And since hot dogs have a tendency to get lonely, you'll want to add some beer battered onion rings (deelish) to your order or, if you're mad at your hubby/wife/boss/dog go for the cheese and garlic fries.  Mmmmmm!

The hot dogs are the real deal, made by the Vienna Beef Company in Chicago and the buns are soft, squishy pillows that cradle your delicious hot dog babies to the very last bite.

There are two locations to serve you.  One at 1288 N. Harbor City Blvd., in Eau Gallie and one at 415 E. New Haven Ave., in Historic downtown Melbourne. Hours are Mon - Thursday 11:00-8:00, Fri - Saturday 11:00-9:00, Sunday 11:30-8:00

Oh, one more thing.  I'm pretty sure that shoes, shirts and dentures are optional here.   So, feel free to put your teeth in your pocket and enjoy your Kraut dog, Chicago dog, or chili, cheese and slaw dog!

They look good. We love coney dogs up here in Detroit.  There is a coney island restaurant in every city.

Sounds like a great lunch spot!  There used to be a hot dog joint over in St. Petersburg called Bill's Dog House.  Pretty much the same type of menu, and Vienna Beef dogs, too!  They were absolutely incredible.  Thanks for sharing!

Kris - Good observation!  I didn't even think of that until you pointed it out.

Russ - Oh, yeah.  Nothing like a good "up north" coney dog

Carol - Are you talking about that place in downtown St. Pete?  With the old lunch counter?  Like right out of a Norman Rockwell painting?  Did they go out of business?  Oh No!  Tell me it isn't so! They had the best coneys!

Laraine...

I love a good hot dog, and one day, I plan to travel from coast to coast eating hot dogs throughout the land. I'll add this fine looking eatery to my list!

Yum. My best dogs come off the grill with my homemade XXX chili. But I'm always searching for some competition. This may give me some and I dont have to cook to get it!

Mustard's last Stand... with that name the place has to be successful!  Looks like a fun place to go!  Next time I'm in the area, I'll go through Eau Gallie and stop in.

What a great place, casual with good eats, I think I would be a regular too. Mustard and relish for me but that menu looks pretty extensive I think I would have to try something more exotic. Fun!

We have a great hot dog place in our area too.  Sometimes you just have to indulge!

Laura - Okay, girl....cough up that recipe for your XXX chili!

Sylvia - You won't be disappointed, I promise.  And the one on Eau Gallie is "dog friendly."  They allow you to bring your dog when you eat on the patio.

Sara -  I love to try the exotic, too - but I always wind up with my "usual."

Cindy - YESSSSSSS!  My middle name (indulge)

Ooooooo... I can't wait to go there with you. That looks like my kinda place!!! Do they have Angus hot dogs? Those are yummy. We buy them a lot up here when we aren't doing our Hewbrew National thing (LOL).

Laraine, you're making me hungry. As many times as I been to Melbourne, I missed this one. I will have to look it up the next time. Thanks.

Wow, that waitress is holding a platter of heart attack there!  Looks wonderful!!  Beer battered onion rings...I'll have an order of those please!

Laraine - I can go for the beer and rings, the chili and cheese, even like that ewe gaullie thing, but keep that slaw off of my dog! If I am ever in Melbourne, I will definitely be checking this place out, perhaps I will run into Ralph, but hopefully not dung fly.

I am a hot dog purist.  Mine are always eaten with yellow mustard only - the way God intended them to be eaten.  Thanks for the post.

C - Yes, chickie....we must do dogs when you get here! Not sure about the Angus part, but they say on the menu that they are made from Kosher beef.

Michael - Yes, by all means.  Treat yourself to some "happy" next time you're in town.

Sharon - Ha!  Bring on the rib spreader!  Let's split an order of the OR's ...that way we can have some of the cheese fries, too.

Mike - Ha! Hey, a dung fly's gotta eat too ya know. (carnival corn dungs)  :-)

Tom - I'll bet you're a baseball fan, too....aren't you?

A hot dog can be a great way to put a smile on ones face. Love the name of this joint.

Hey Laraine, you have to send this restaurant's name in to Guy Fiere so he can go there on  his "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives" show. Then, find out when he's going to tape the show there and go be a customer. Make sure you have a mustard mustache and a sampling of 8 of the hot dogs on your table, so he comes over to interview you. (What do you mean you don't want to be on TV?!?)

Anyway, this place sounds fantastic. Unfortunately, am in Ohio and the only thing here even close to that is "Rudy's" hot dog, and a restaurant that serves something similar to those "pies" at the shitfly fair...

Guess it's Hebrew National dogs for me...

Wow, that place looks great!  We have a great hot dog place here in Wake Forest called Shorty's - talk about deeeelish!  I have to admit though, Mustard's seems to have some great combinations for their dogs!

JL - We're talkin' ear-to-ear grin at this place!

Steve - Go grab yourself a hot dog!

Toni - Hey, That's a great idea.  Our very own Dives show.  And BTW, Rudy's serves a pretty good coney - but  I think I'll pass on the Corn Dung Dogs :-)

Leesa - I'll have to remember Shorty's next time I swing by that way.  I'll give you a call in advance so we can catch up on all the Active Rain gossip.  :-)

Laraine, I love the name "Mustard's last Stand"

We have a historic diner car that is a Providence landmark!  It is parked at Providence City Hall from 7pm-4am, 365 days a year since like 1935. Theirs have some onions and meat sauce and celery salt and is called the "everything on it" dog. Great place to go when you get that midnight craving and you have been out on the town.

Kathleen - How cool is that?  Since 1935?  They obviously serve up a good hot dog.  Celery salt?  What a great idea!  I'll have to remember that little trick.

Laraine,

I really take issue with you. I just wasted 2 hours reading all your old posts and had good laugh to the point I had to subscribe to your blog. Jeez, you're as bad as I am. No worse.

Laraine...

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the refer to Angus Dogs as Cow Dogs here? Around these parts they shoot cows for sport :)

P.S. I got it. And it cracked me up. I want to tear the pages out and hang them all over my house :)
