I would like to apologize to all who felt that in last weeks post, that I being biased. I am a quick learner, thanks Lenn, and learn a lot by mistake. I hope that you can see by my maturity that I am admitting my wrong.

Only you can determine your success and it is only limited to the work ethic you are willing to put behind it. As far as age being related, in my post, I guess where I was going with that was that the younger generations are on line, and to find them, YOU, whatever your age, have a great chance to reach the new home buyers, by being on line.

CAN you find business not being online? Absoultely. It has worked forever, there will always be business found offline.

Does age have a thing to do with it? No, just your determination.

Activerain is a second home to me, and I love the diversity here. Everyone has great opinions and feedback to give.

Thank You

Josh Murphy

Josh, I agree with you regarding the online resources.

I hope you'll remember me if you learn of anyone moving to "The OC" and I will do the same!

Best regards.

Thanks Josh.  I'll spread the word.

Actually, it's a good idea to treat all folks equally, no matter what their age, appearance, location, etc.  Age discrimination, when it gets in your bones could rear it's ugly head.  You could insult a home buyer dressed in overalls, driving an old pick-up truck who calls to buy a $2,000,000 property to bring his 25 year old bride home.

Folks are folks.

Its seem that more and more all ages are online, but the younger generation that are not 18 yet will probably be totally online in the next few years and thats going to be a greater source of leads.

You are going to be a greater agent because you have an open mind and are willing to listen to those "older" professionals!  Good luck to you.

Hi Josh. You are smart. Your initial post stirred up some controversy so kudos to you. I think that you are doing well and will continue to do well in real estate. Like how I do not underestimate some boomers and  older agents... I also do not underestimate some fellow Generation Xers or Yers LOL Aloha, Lana

In my humble opinion, you either work toward capturing a meaningful web presence or your business may eventually erode to mostly referrals of past clients; it would be tough to obtain new business without a serious online presence.

A gold star for starting something, and a gold star for wrapping it up nicely. You'll get far here in the Rain, young man. Now this is what you call maturity indeed.

Josh,

It does take a lot of maturity to admit when you've made a mistake.  The great thing is that you are putting yourself out there.  As you blog, you are not only advertising, but you learning more about your profession.  Best wishes to you.

That's a powerful statement and it hold true no matter what industry or career we are in. What may work for one...may not work for another. That's a fact.

Josh - That is one of the best posts I've read on AR. It's hard to admit when we think we are wrong. To do it so very publicly is most admirable.

I did not read the original blog, but I sure do appreciate someone who can admit they have learned a lesson or turned  a new way, especially among peers.  Good for you

Josh, you are just too cute! If you were here I would pinch your cheeks! Funny thing is - my boys are 26 and 28 and I am the one at 50 that is way ahead with anything on-line. When ever they have a puter question I am the one they call.  :)

Yikes ! - Josh - I congratulate you for figuring out that you might have made your original point in other words before you lost three of your typing fingers.  You have received the benefit of advice from some of the top practitioners on ActiveRain, so I do not have much to add.  I am one of the "older" agents referred to by reference in your original post but have been immersed in computers since the 1970's (yes - I precede the PC).

But your point (if not your choice of words) is well taken.  Technology is here to be our servant (like Robin Williams as the Genie in Aladdin) and can give the individual agent a wider reach in marketing with efficiency and cost effectiveness.  You get my vote.

You have a good heart, Josh, and have accepted the criticism of your peers with grace.  I wish you well.  But generalities and stereotypes are a problem.  There will be young or old agents who do not have the discipline to follow through with a marketing plan - and there will be old hands that will be able to teach you a few techie things you may want to know.  And I am sure you could teach me more than a few tricks.  The point is that age is not the factor you want to focus on here.

I found your facebook account but did not find you on twitter.  (info not on your website ? - strange omission for a techie) Let me know and I will follow.

Take care, Josh, and best wishes for your success.

Whenever I come to the fair housing clause in a contract, I always remind every seller and every buyer that as long as the money is green, no one should care. I even joke saying purple martians could be buying the house - as long as the money's green, who cares?

It's true. Age, race, creed, religion, sexual orientation, familial status, political party affiliation, you name it - none of it should matter as long as the money (or whatever is being accepted by the seller and offered by the buyer) is mutually acceptable to the parties...

Josh, couldn't agree with you more about finding customers more with younger people online. Older people read newspapers more often, younger the online news. I'm a hybrid, I read everything LOL!! Great thoughts! Congratulations on your feature.

Josh,

I think that anyone and everyone, in this day and age, can benefit from online work. Maybe some of the folks who have been around many years have a person to person network that suits them just fine but I find more and more people looking to SEO for the gravy.

Josh:

How wonderful that you are expressing yourself and also able to say that you made a mistake!  It takes a brave soul to do so and we heartily applaud you. Keep on doing what you do.  Wishing you continued success.

Josh: I think the key is to find what works and stick with it. Most of us are in a referral based business. However we find our customers is what we should make part of our marketing plan. Thanks!

The internet does not discriminate.  The information is there for all to capture.  Isn't it great?  And Active Rain doesn't discriminate either. Here for any age to input.  This has been a good discussion. I enjoyed following it. Thanks.
