Wayne, I think that apartment was set up to WOW people and it certainly had an impact.  He also liked the fact that I knew about artwork and have a real appreciation for it. And was more than happy to answer a few questions about his favorite city for me!

 In answer to your question, people don't like to have the stairs right in line with the front door as there is an energetic "sweep of energy" from a Feng Shui perspective right up the steps.  Things we use vary to deflect from this:  If the landing downstairs is wide enough you can add a heavy planter or vase (stops the energy from flowing up quickly).  Some people hang a crystal from a Black Sect perspective from the bottom of the staircase hanging from the ceiling.  A 40mm would be a good size and doesn't really show if you hang it short enough...they are also used to delflect and move energy.  Another method is to use artwork on the wall leading upstairs, it deflects the eye from the sweep.  Some people put a mirror at the top of the staircase and that is in many books....I don't like it.  I personally think it intensifies the sweep (even if you don't "feel" it).  I hope that helps.

HI Wayne, There are Western methods we have used (with great success and for very little money) that we find almost nothing that can't be adjusted to change the flow of energy.  Actually, the worst problem I have seen in when the number 4 is on the house.  "Four" in Chinese sounds like their word for "death" and they won't even consider it.  Round crystals have a hole through the top and are cut in 9" increments of RED string or ribbon, hung from the bottom part of the staircase in the center. 

Jo-Anne, I am going to check Amazon.  Funny that you mentioned that, I have a credit there anyway from my credit card :)  All those books sound like I would be interested in them and I really thank you for letting me know about them!

Lizette, I have been to Scottsdale but made the mistake of going in the summer.  Get up to Sedona if you're going to be so close, it is truly a breathtaking place!  I have never been to Kentucky and I would absolutely LOVE a tour guide so don't be surprised if I show up on your front door one day....like a Robbin. BTW, the SAME applies for New York City!  This is one great town and I think I know most of the BEST places!  You might want to consider coming here.  I have a pullout and a private bathroom and am only an hour from the City.
