Looking back at the very first post that I put on Active Rain gave me inspiration.
This is the photo that I had in that first post (of course, at the time, I called it a blog & only got 4 comments - 2 of which were family).
Looking at this photo makes me realize --- "wait a minute, I had cancer" Really, being a breast cancer survivor has opened up my life to what is really important. I do actually forget that I had cancer -- until, I undress -- and then it is very clear.
For those who were not reading my posts back in Oct. 2008, Boyd & I made the decision to a have a double mastectomy. It was the best decision that we have ever made. No, I did not have cancer in both breasts -- we just didn't want to have to worry about it coming back.
I have a friend who was diagnosed at the same time as I (3 and a half years ago) -- she chose to go the chemo route and not the mastectomy -- I regret to tell you that her cancer is back -- now in her bones and lungs -- not a good thing.
Who knows if she had had the mastectomy whether it would have come back? Only God knows that. But, I believe that the mastectomy could have saved her life.
How is this inspirational? I feel that I am an inspiration -- an inspiration to others who may be going through the same tough decision.
Today, I am wonderful, wonderful (truly) --- feel great, can do anything that I decide to do. To be around me, you would never know that I am a breast cancer survivor unless I decide to preach about making these tough decisions.
Please, if any of you out there are in the process of trying to decide what to do, please have the mastectomy (mastectomies).
