Yes, there is a difference.  Most of us get them confused.  Most of us believe goals are what motivate us.  Most of us never set goals or have dreams.  When we were kids, what did you want to be when you grew up?  Who did you want to be like?  What did you want to have?  What did you want to be able to do?  Why did you feel these ways?  What about these things or people inspired you the most?  What did you get excited about when you were younger?  What happened to these dreams and desires?

No close your eyes and remember how you felt when you were younger and thinking about your wants and   desires.  This is how you should feel now when you think about what excites you now. Get a piece of paper and write down what excites you.  Be honest.  Ask yourself, "What do I want out of life?  What do I want to accomplish with my life?  How do I want to be remembered?  Who are the people I want to be surrounded?  How do I want to enjoy life?  etc..."  These are your dreams.  Dreams excite you.  Dreams drive you.  Dreams are your motivation.  Your dreams need to be so BIG that you always see them.  You need to post your dreams everywhere.  You need to visualize you having and living your dreams.  You need to do positive self talk and tell yourself you already are enjoying your dreams.  Positive reinforcement is key.

So, what are goals?  Goals are stepping stones.  Goals are what you are going to achieve in order to bring you closer to your dreams.  You have short, midrange, and long term goals.  You constantly reset your goals to keep you going towards your dreams.  A goal could be I am going to talk to 10 people a day for 30 days.  I am going to calls 20 people a day.  I am going  to prospect 3 hours a day.  Once you get these goals down, you look at the results you are getting and adjust or change goals to make sure you are heading towards your dreams.  You set your goals according to your present or future skills.

You have to have goals and dreams to go anywhere.  If not, you will be heading everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

BUILD YOUR DREAMS SO BIG THAT NOTHING WILL GET IN YOUR WAY AND THAT WILL DRIVE YOU AND FULL YOU< EVEN WHEN YOU FEEL YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE.  You will be surprised how your true dreams give you new fuel to keep going.  Most people stop just before they are about to realize their dreams.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are your dreams and goals.  Please share with us all.  Let others know your dreams and goals and be accountable to a small group.  Alot of times we fail because we try to do it all ourselves and give up when it gets a little tough.  Good luck.

8 Comments on Goals and Dreams

Great post.  I am currently working on what my goals, and now dreams are.  But, I will tell you that they revolve around my family, vacationing, and helping others obtain their dream homes, paying off my student loans wouldn't be bad either.  Thanks for the post and motivation.

Good post Earl. I think everyone needs to know and understand this concept well. Right now I have both and I am glad to be working towards them all.

Best advice is to write the goals down, you are more likely to achieve them.  My goal is to be successfull and retire my wife.  That is my simple goal, but in California, it isn't that simple!

Dawn, Thank you. Be specific with you dreams and gools.  Set time lines for when you will achieve certain things.  The clearer you are the more focused you will be.

Jacob, That is great!

Jonathan, You are right.  What is successfull to you?  Be specific. That makes it alot more simple.  Without specifics you are like a boat floating in the open seas.  You need to start your engine and steer your ship.

Good post. I'm like Jacob. I have both. The dreams help to shape the goals.

Earl,

Dreams and goals are key concepts for success. Goals have to be in writing so that they are measurable as to how you're doing. Like you say, they need to be reset periodically because circumstances change.

Having goals and dreams make us want to get up each morning and try to get one step closer to attaining them.. I  agree we may need to reset periodically.

Leon, You have to have both.  Dreams drive you, goals are your roadmap on how to reach your dreams.  Without Dreams, goals won't lead you anywhere.  Without goals, you won't know how to reach your dreams.

Esko, you are right

Gita, thank you
