I joined Activerain back in May of 2007. Let me tell you I was a bit overwhelmed with information overload. There were(and still are) so many talented bloggers and real estate professionals. Because of the learning potential, I spent alot of time on Activerain mostly reading and trying to apply the new acquired knowledge.

With all the positives going on there was only one negative that affected me. Sometimes I would try to get on Activerain and the server would be down. Or, I would be finishing up a post and go to hit save and the server would be down.

Because I was an Activerain "addict", this really got under my skin when I could not get on Activerain. I am sure these problems existed because we were growing at "break neck speed" and the servers could not handle it. Or perhaps the right staff hadn't been hired yet to handle the technical side of things.

A few months after Brad Andersohn was hired full time and about the time that Jeremy Blanton was hired here I noticed the down time starting going down. Can you remember the last time Activerain was not up and going?

Thank-you Bob Stewart and staff for your hard work keeping us up and running. I know I speak for many here who joined during the days of all the down time.

I have lost a few posts, but that is just something I am doing wrong.  Never seen the server down.  Great site and habit forming.

I've noticed it too and it's a great relief.  The conversion to the beffed up server capacity appears to have worked.

Hey Mike,

I remember a few times it was down, but that's to be expected. I think they do a great job with the technical service side of this platform. Kudos to the A|R staff.  :)

Hi Mike - I've never noticed any downtime or server problems since I started using ActiveRain earlier this year.  However, I do notice that comments sometimes take a few seconds to be processed and other times, even in the same session, are processed almost instantaneously.

Sandra and Lisa, thanks for commenting. I see that both of you joined this year so didn't see the down time Lenn and I are talking about. Thanks Lenn for your comments.

Marc,

There have been other smaller problems but they all appear to be "fixed".

I love the ubiquitiousness of ActiveRain. I am on here every day and have maybe witnessed one or two times when the curtain was up saying that I couldn't access the system. Believe me, I felt like Linus with the missing blanket, and was so glad when they were very brief :-)

Hi Mike,

I had noticed the same thing too!  I still get an occasional proxy error but nothing close to the interruptions we had been getting.  We've got a solid team working very hard to keep up with the expansive growth and Active Rain for which I am very thankful for.

The site's reliability has really improved. My only suggestion is that the AR Team notify us in advance when they intend to go to 'Intermission' to fix bugs and install updates. Just last night I lost part of a post because of an unexpected Intermission.

5:28pm • #10

Funny I should run across this post, since last night the system was down at one point when I tried to access it.  That has been the only time that I have seen service interrupted though, so obviously their doing a great job.

If you're worried about losing a blog due to down time, here's a link to an online html editor that I saw in another blog here on activerain.  It seems to work pretty well, and then all you have to do is cut and paste into the activerain system.

Totally thought you were gonna go a different direction with this post, but you are correct that the stability of the site has improved tremendously over time. Kudos to those that are part of making that happen!

Mike, the up time has been better with the occasional Gateway Error or Proxy Error problems. Much better though recently I agree.

Every bit of the praise for this needs to go to three guys:

Jorgen Hahn

Mike Judge

Diego Algorta

These three guys make up our development staff. Any and all advances on the technological side of things are a result of the hard work and determination of these three guys. So on behalf of them, thank you for noticing Mike. They work very long hours and always go the extra mile to make sure that everything not only runs smooth but that Jon, me, Jeff, Brad, Jeremy and the rest of our team get their every wish!

Now if we could just find a cloning machine for these guys!

There was one time that Brad let the turkey into the control room.. I must admit.. the down time these days is limited to very little. Of course from time to time there must be a little late night Intermission for a little behind the curtain improvements be performed.. This time has been limited to less than 1 hour when needed.

Kudos to all the techies here at Active Rain. I have never noticed any down time just sometimes had trouble logging in but I think that was more of a browser issue. Great post Mike and thank you for inviting me. It's a great place :)

Like Bob already said, the thanks really needs to go to Jorgen, Diego, & Mike.  They are an awesome group that does a great job of keeping the network running smoothly.

Bob- Didn't Jon already place the order for the cloning machine?

Hi, Mike,

Just wanted to say thanks for the positive "shout out" to the AR staff.  Did you notice how much better everything on AR got after you organized that great Dyersburg ActiveRain event with ActiveBrad?  It just seems like everything took off from there!!  Good times and great people!

It might be cool in a way that there is so much activity on Active Rain that it would crash the server. That's lemnoade out of a lemon.

Mike - Bob is right (well at least this time! lol~) our team has really been instrumental in making our network and community run smoothly and efficiently, and all the while adding and creating new and exciting additions  and programs for our members.

Kudos to Jorgen, Mike and Diego, (and to Claire Cruver for keeping them fed and in line) for all their hard work.  They all pour blood, sweat and tears into place.  Without them, we'd have no community to build!!  :-)

@Roland- I'm still eating left over turkey sandwiches! ROFL...

It is so true, you often do not notice good service, just bad.  AR is great at staying up.  When I get a person on the phone, which is not too hard, they talk for a long time, offer me tips and are very helpful.

Mike - I have noticed that over the past several months things have been significantly better.  When I first joined, I was concerned with all the interruptions and crazy things that were happening.  Now, we get an intermission screen, and we know that we should stay off for a while.  Sometimes I think they do that on purpose, just so us addicts can take a break and be more productive in the real world, ha.
