Cambridge Lutheran Team #1 (7-2) stays tied for first place with a 16-9 win tonight over River of Life (0-9).
After a scoreless first inning I lead off the second inning with a line drive up the middle that went through to the hill in center field. I am not the fastest person around but was still able to leg out an inside the park home run. We scored two more times that inning and lead 3-2 after 2 innings.
We broke out in the 3rd inning score 6 runs...7 singles, a walk and an error allowed 9 straight batters to reach and score. River of life got a couple runs back in the bottom of the inning.
Another solid inning in the 4th where we scored 5 runs helped give us more breathing room. The big hit that inning was my second inside the park home run. And we were up 14-4 after 4 innings. River of Life came a live in the 5th and scored 4 to close the gap to 14 - 8.
We plated two more runs in the 6th and it could have been more as Josh Norby had what should have been an inside the park home run negated because the umpire said he missed home plate. Instead it was a triple. Good thing we refrained from arguing because of the lead. We scored once more in the 7th to cap the 16-9 win.
Greg Doom suggested he would go 4 for 4 or better on this evening. Instead he came through with a solid night of 3 of 5 from the plate. Josh Norby and Rob Whiteford led the team going 4 for 4 tonight. Rob Willits and I chipped in with 3 for 5 nights batting. Jeff Schomel took 2 walks and take over sole possession as the team leader in walks with 10 (Jeff batted clean up tonight). Melissa Schmidt went 0-4 with a walk in the lead off spot and now wants to bat last again.
Next week we play Lewis Lake Team #1 (4-5).
