Until recently, the last time I reviewed and updated my home page was when I completed 50 pages of content.

My site has evolved in many different ways since then.

Your Home Page Is Like A Front Door To A House

As I was preparing to update my home page, I came across a comment that made a lot of sense to me:

“Equate your home page to the front door of a house. Your voice...will determine what your visitors do with that door”

Pages 87-97 offer some great help for preparing your home page.

As illustrated on page 88, visitors to your site could have a number of reactions, such as:

“Hey I'm in. Show me around” Obviously this is what we want.

“Don't get up. I'll show myself out” Obviously this is not what we want.

Derision, laughter or some other response that chases them away.

To encourage the first response and discourage the second two, the book also includes 8 examples of good home pages.

Featured Websites

When I was scanning through these sample home pages, I found myself thinking it might be helpful to have a similar selection of real estate agents' home pages.

Since good examples are very useful learning tools, good examples of agents' home pages would serve as models for other agents.

At that point, the entrepreneurial part of my brain kicked in.

At various times throughout my life, I have seen photographs that are in fact collections of interesting front doors of homes.

Why not something similar for the front doors...or home pages...of real estate related websites?

But this is the Internet...why just the front doors?...why not feature the entire sites?

This would address another request that I request that I receive from time to time...”can you recommend a good real estate website so I will know what one looks like?”

The end of the process resulted in yet another victory for the entrepreneurial part of my brain!

When I learn about a good real estate agent's website, I will feature it on my site...with the owner's permission.

As part of featuring these sites, I will also add comments about what makes each site so good. This will help make featured websites examples of good sites. As of today, I have featured 4 websites.

It seems to me this will produce a win-win-win scenario.

For each site that is featured, I will promote it on my site, in an ActiveRain blog and through a Twitter update.

Others will win because they an learn from your experience...and will win with some great new content for my site.
