The Hat Man in Charleston, SC

Meet one of Charleston's oldest citizens !!  The Charleston Hat man.  Can you count the hats ?  It is reported that the clown-like Hat Man was first painted around 1892 to advertise the wares of the haberdashery therein.  Sixteen hats of twelve styles compose the hatman.  Can you find the Rebel hat, the Confederate hat, or the British sailors hat ?  The hatman is located on the corner of Church and Broad streets in Charleston, SC.

Thanks for the comment!!  I sent this as a mail-out and then received several calls thanking me for the card. I even got a listing appointment from the mail-out.

The Hat Man was painted by my paternal grandfather A. Beauregard Betancourt, Sr. on the Church Street side of his store located on the corner of Broad and Church.

How interesting to know who painted Charleston's oldest citizen.  Do you live in Charleston ?

Unfortunately, I no longer live in Charleston, where I was born and raised. I do make it a point to visit as often as possible.
