Flower growing in sidewalk

I was running late for class yesterday morning when I noticed this lone but beautiful flower growing against all odds. It was right in the middle of a heavily traveled sidewalk. I noticed it but could not spare the time – I did not want to be tardy.

Leaving the building after 4:00 p.m, to my delight this bit of color was still quite alive. I was glad, and decided to stop and photograph it.

Something this simple can make you stop and think – about challenges and obstacles, and how we deal with them. A seed sprouting, taking root, and producing a bright pink flower is not a surprise until you see it away from a garden. We might even be used to seeing weeds growing in a sidewalk crack, but a flower? And on a busy sidewalk? It overcame the odds of having enough soil and water, it overcame the odds of being crushed by one of the many feet that walk by every day. No one ever told that flower it couldn't live there…so it does.

I learned a long time ago that the saying is very true: The person who says, "It can't be done" needs to get out of the way of the person who is already doing it!

That's really cool. I've noticed in my yard certain flowers, namely morning glories, seem to grow in any place possible. I never planted them! But they push through and make the best of what they got. The plant isn't complaining. Its giving all it can to survive and thrive.

You were truly "inspired by nature"!  It is amazing some of the ways nature "survives".

Hi Margaret!  What a wonderful 'wordless' Wednesday post!  How amazing that the beautiful flower arose from the concrete and your other photo is simply GORGEOUS!  It should be in a magazine!

Have a great Thursday...

Hi Margaret This is not only beautiful but inspirational.   The flowers are just beautiful in the photo and the lonely little flower was strong enough to stand alone away from the pack.  It is almost sad...but it stands victorious ..so it does

express the hope and trust to stand alone.. Thanks so much...This blog can stir many thoughts

Changing brokers and taking a new listing every day and converting others while showing property and taking training for the new technology.....seemingly close to impossible but loving every minute !

Margaret - reminds me of the old saying that goes something like this:

The difficult we do at once, the impossible takes a little longer!

Today I am losing weight!

Great decision.  I have a quote in my office that says "do one thing every day that scares you"  You stopped a took a picture eventhough it could have caused you to be late.  Was it worth it.  It must have been ---people from all over the country are commenting on your photo.  Was there anything else in your day as productive?

Margaret, I too often stop and smell the flowers....or just stare at the dazzling colors.  I don't at all like it when someone tells ME I can't do something.  They damper my spirit and try to hold me back but I don't allow it.  I loved your post, it struck a nerve (or two :)

Margaret...truly beautiful post. Seeing the flower growing there in the crack of the sidewalk, reminds me of all the beauty of nature...we are surrounded by it.  I photographed a flower on my deck simply beause of its beauty, color, but most of all it was the only flower on the bush.

Shelton, Yes, it was worth it and probably the most productive thing of the day.

mARTi, I knew you would like this!

Tom, That would have been a cute title for this post.

Carole, You always see or create beauty around yourself and others.

Rebecca, You are more than welcome to post that lone flower here.

Margaret,

What impossible thing am I doing today?  Getting docs out on a loan that the borrower was sure would be denied.  She had given up, actually.  The lock was extended for a total of 60 days, the second longest transaction I've ever had.  Tomorrow, though, she will close at 4.875%, down from 6.375%, for a 30 year term, and no prepayment penalty.

Thanks for making me reshape the way I see my day.  You're encouraging.

Interesting...leave it to you to see the big picture!!  Remembering always that we can see something  postive in everything.  Where there was a weed, now there is a flower.  Love it.  :)
