Every summer we go through periods of drought in Northern Virginia.  The grass starts to get a little browner and the garden starts to wilt.  I never felt comfortable hooking up the hose and sprinkler as it seems like such a waste of water.  This spring I started shopping for a rain barrel.  Rain barrels can be placed under the a downspout to catch rainwater. Using the stored rainwater for gardening needs, saves on utility costs and can also prevent basement flooding

This is a cool idea.  I've been wanting to do one of these for a little over a year now.  The british call them water butts, and there's a company that makes them shaped like butts...too funny.  Google it!

That's really funny.  I found a water butt: http://www.straightgarden.com/images/products/buttbuttnews.jpg.  I wish I had know that was an option!
