Yeah, I drive my husband crazy with "Hey take that turn!" right after we've passed a sign.

And driving him even crazier with "Turn right...no the the other right!" Luckily he understands my non-directional brain and laughs it off... well most of the time.

Will Cyn ever learn her left from her right in my lifetime?

We were just motoring around in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains at the end of our goof-off day and I spotted the Tallulah Gorge State Park sign in Habersham County, Georgia. Even though it was at the end of our road-trip, my Ted pulled a U-ey and we went back to check it out.

feet on grate steps

Whoa now... did the sign read 'Gorge' and did I mention I'm kinda afraid of heights?

Below are a few photos I took from the top of the 1,000 ft. Tallulah Gorge. Spectacular doesn't even come close to describing the view. The trail we took was made of recycled rubber and it's extremely easy on the knee, hip and foot joints! Nice :)

There's a visitor's center with great information about the history, wildlife, and surrounding area of Tallulah Falls and Gorge. Inside the center you will find informative attendants that will help you determine which trails are best suited to hike concerning your ability and health status. People of all ages were on the trail!

Ahhh..life is good here in the North Georgia Mountains, 85 degrees today & low humidity!

Remember the prehistoric creature I mentioned in the title ? Well here it was lurking on the nearby trail... check it out below for yourself.Yikes!!!

log that looks like a creature

Ok, ok so it wasn't a creature, only a stump with some moss, but it did catch our eye. Pretty cool looking huh?

Well I couldn't leave without taking a picture of some flora.

Wild flora

Can anyone identify this flora below I photographed on the trail? It has characteristics of a of hydrangea.

Lots to do in this area only sorry we didn't have more time. Ted and I hope to go back in the fall! Check out the links below for more information if you plan to visit! Now git out there and have some fun!

Tallulah Falls is located on Highway 441 an hour and a half northeast of Atlanta. Well that timeline all depends on the traffic here in Atlanta ya know ;) Take I-985 north which then feeds into 365 north, Highway 23, and Highway 441.

Cyn, those spontaneous moments can be the best.  Looks like a beautiful area.  Would love to someday explore the east and south.  That flora does look like a hydrangea.  Thanks for sharing!

Cynthia- a rubberized trail, now that is my kind of surface to walk on. Great pics and great commentary.

I love this post.  I feel like I just went on a little journey!  Love the captions hidden in the pictures!  You aren't the only one who is directionally impaired and anxious with heights...me too!  Luckily I also have an understanding hubby.  I have no idea what the flora is, sorry!

Hey Ginger, yep we are the spontaneous type and there is so much here to explore. We once drove an hour up north for a good pizza and mountain views! Always happy to see your comments.

Hi Mike, yeah the trail was not hard on the joints at all, kinda bouncy! Thanks for your very kinds words I appreciate it!

Hello Sharon, I'm glad you like the post & picture tags because we had so much fun. Nice to know I'm not the only directionally challenged ;) As far as the flora is concerned, I think it's some hybrid of a hydrangea.  As always it's nice to see your smiling face on my blog!

Cynthia - beautiful scenery...

... and yet, I can't help but notice that your "stance" hasn't changed a bit, since you were a kid.

Weird, huh?  Leaning toward that left arm, with your left foot raised a bit... hmmmmm?

Cynthia, what gorgeous scenery!  It's amazing what you find when you take the "right" turn!  :-) Oh, I would have held on to that railing too!  Have a great weekend!

OMGosh Alan...you are so observant.  A realtor with that kind of skill is great...you must work with a stager...right.  I've been trying to get Cyn to update that photo for some time now...a cropped version of the one with the CB hat would do just fine!

Cyn...I will drive almost anywhere for good pizza and a really cold beer on a hot day!

LOL@ Alan, You right on many accounts.

  • It is quite beautiful around here.
  • I'm actually getting ready to run away from the camera, hence the left foot raised. Can't you tell how thrilled I am to be in front of it?
  • It is weird as I am known to be weird.

Hey Silvia, Just think, we were driving right past the sign...I'm a slow reader and Ted's a zippy driver! LOL@ you Silvia it was indeed the 'right' turn!

Ginger, I swear Alan is purty darn observant besides being witty, you gotta check out his blog!!! It always makes me smile. Now one day, one day I just might surprise you Ginger ;) Thanks for coming back my west coast friend.

I think that view is mesmerizing and would find it hard to leave!  Good for you for taking off to go exploring.  Too many of us end up staying home and missing out on sights like this just a short drive away.  Thanks for sharing your photos.

Hi Cynthia, I'm so glad you posted this to the Road Trips group.  It is nice to see all the great places to visit in North American and beyond.

Did you actually make it down to the water or was it too far down?

I've never actually been there but feel like I went tonight.  Thanks for sharing these fabulous photos and for making me smile after a hard day.  We said so long to a friend today who passed away in her sleep Saturday.  It was nice to escape and go on photo journey with you.

Oak leaf hydrangea???

Great pictures, too!  You are certainly brave - I'm afraid of heights, too.  Thank goodness for wide angle and zoom lenses - saves me from having to inch to the edge for a good shot!

Morning Robert, First of all, love your avatar, very cool. Secondly the height wasn't too bad, but I was grateful for those sturdy rails!

Thanks for the 'nice shots', remark. I grabbed my husbands work camera and I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to camera work. I plan on learning more like you pros!

Maureen hey there! It was hard to leave and a perfect end to the road trip! There are many places around here only an hour and a smidge away. Thanks so much for the visit :)

Hey Jenny, I love the group you started 'Road Trips' , It was at the end of day and due to time constraints sadly we didn't. But I plan on going back in the fall and make it down the trail, no matter how many scary  'Danger' signs I see, Woo-Hoo!

Ah the smiling Cathy Lee, so nice you stopped by. So sorry about your friend, I'm happy I could take your mind off your sad loss w/ my little adventure :)

Morning Monica, Hummm... I think you could be right about that flora, I'll Google that, thanks! Oh man I can feel my knees get weak nearing the edge, hence the tight grip on the rail and one foot raised to get the heck out of there!

Hello Cynthia-I am the caboose getting over here. Sorry about that. I love your pics. They are gorgeous. It is nice to have those goof off days. I can relate to that direction thing. I don't know my left from my right. I have to literally stop and think about it before it registers. LOL Hope you are having a great weekend. <SMILE>

Very late to this party, because I went on a little road trip myself! What I wanted to comment on is the "left, no other left" part!  Are you a lefty?  I was a lefty until 3rd grade, and they switched me in school.  Never been "right" in the head since! =o( Ambidextrous in use of my hands, but not in my brain! (There are many more of us that don't admit this out loud! )

No worries Cheryl, the door is always open to my party...visitors welcome at any time!

No I'm mostly a right handed person and do some other things with the left. Oooh they switched you huh? I remember them doing that in school too. Honestly what was the point in that? My brain is all over the place that why I have trouble telling my right from left ;)

Finally a question on AR I can answer.  It is a hydrangea, specifically an oakleaf hydrangea.  The really crazy part is I know because I listed a house TODAY that has one.  She was telling me that in the fall the leaves also turn beautiful colors.  I had googled it, and my husband MUST buy me one.

I also loved the tree.  It's historic eye is looking right at you.  And I don't know why you are camera shy, you look fabulous.  And I love that Alan May pointed out that you are standing like in your childhood photo.  Thanks for checking in on Glen.  He's MUCH better.

2:01pm • #27

Tammy now I gotta have one too after reading the link you provided (thanks) it states, A tremendous advantage of the Oakleaf is that it can thrive in much dryer locations than its cousins. Great for our climate here in GA! Nice how you get another show w/ those leaves turning colors too.

That was a pretty cool looking log, glad you liked it. As for the camera, I'd rather be hind it than in front, now my daughter on the other hand, let's just say she's the EXACT opposite, LOL. Thanks for your kind words Tammy. Alan's a hoot isn't he? He has such a fun blog, I love how his blog headers change all the time along w/ the commentary.

Glad to hear Glen is better, my daughter rescued a sweet pup last year, my grandpup as I call her;)

Your "hydrangea" looks like an oakleaf hydrangea, and considering you're in Georgia, I suspect that's what it is.

I was in Tallulah Gorge way back in 1976. I was driving from D.C. back to Texas, but I took a lot of detours and made what should have been a 2-day trip into a 2-week trip, but I also had a very good friend living in Aiken, South Carolina, at the time, so it was only natural to explore Georgia, too.

Hellooooo Russel, I think that's the consensus concerning the identification of the plant, thanks!

Humm... 'way back in 1976', seems like yesterday to me, sigh. Detours are the best, love the spontaneity don't ya? Nice to see you today :)

Cynthia,

You brought me some great memories of the Georgia Mountains!   The views and photos you took are wonderful.  I enjoyed reading the commentary that went with the photos.  And what an interesting looking prehistoric creature!  Thank you for the chuckle.  Great post!   I am now motivated to create a post (later today) of my latest hiking trip with photos of course.  :)

Cynthia,

You are welcome.  The zoom is actually one of the features I enjoy the most about my digital camera.  It comes very handing when capturing photos of animals in nature and any prehistoric creatures you may come across.  :)

I appreciate your super kind compliments too, my Southern friend.
