Community Living

Community living is far different than living in a home. Apartments and Condos have appeal that individual homes can not offer. I live in downtown Kirkland and in an apartment, yes I rent because I cannot afford to by in my area of choice yet, there are people that are in my demographical group. It makes it very nice because everyone is in a similar time of their lives and interests are also very similar, friends and fun.

Community living also has allows people to live in the city where a person doesn’t need to use an automobile to get around. From my place I can walk to the gym, grocery store, the lake, friends place, Starbucks, restaurants and even the clubs/bars. Cab rides are only 3-4 bucks and Wendy's is open late.

But there are some disadvantages to community living like barking dogs, neighbors on your walls and parties on Monday night (oops that it is me during Monday Night Football). It is important to know if you can handle some of these drawbacks if you're thinking about buying a condo over a house. After being in my place for over two years it is time for me buy a home, my goal is the end of 2007 :)

Community living is fun and lively but don't expect live so close to people without learning to be understanding of other habits and pets.

Living in an area of your peers who share common interests as well as social/economic status is understandable. Personally, I like my space too much as well as not having anyone be able to tell me what I can and can't do in my residence. But that's just me. -Charles

If you need a referral, I know of a Seattle area ActiveRainer who'll be glad to help you out ;)

I may be doing the opposite.  I gave up urban living to buy my place and it's not really me.  So, I'm looking at buying an in-city condo...I like the noise and activity from a vibrant neighborhood.

Nice Ben ;) How about we swap my apartment for your house? That sounds pretty fair, doesn't it?

Over this past year, I have had a funny craving to mow grass and do landscaping. The market is not what people call affordable living but the area is so nice and hopefully my evil plan works when that 1,000 sq/ft, 2 bedroom, 10K sq/ft lot comes available.

There are condos available down here and who knows my thoughts may change :P

Condos are a great way to get started. Grow some equity and then move onto a house or townhouse. The best part is you never have to worry about mowing the lawn or cleaning the gutters.

Condo would be a good way to gain some equity but there is no yard or personal garage. I have the urge to work on my truck and the parking garage here is just not condusive to replacing trucks suspension :P
