A co-worker sent this to me today. I'm a Centrist, he's a hard core Conservative, but somehow this talks to both of us.

I've reached a point where I have lost complete and total faith in our system. This well made video has pointed out things that I wasn't even aware of. It has nothing to do with right or left and everything to do with the lives we live. It effects Real Estate, education, health care - you name it.

Do we as a nation have what it takes to fire Congress and take our country back? I'm not sure if I feel saddened or empowered after I watch this. Mostly I feel sad, but somehow I feel empowered enough to share it here on AR.

Somehow I still feel apathetic - Chris told me that's what they want - business as usual. Can a teabag make a difference?

Will you send one?

Kate, we are a nation of cowards.  How many of us speak out?  I do believe in a massing of the people to send a message.  I've participated in every anti-war protest in DC, except one, since the first one in the late 1960's.  BUT I don't believe that the tea bag party has organized for the express purpose of letting our voices be heard.  I believe it is anti-Obama pure and simple.  Just look at the signs at some of those "parties."  They don't address the issue, they do address hate.  And I don't believe we are being taxed without representation.  That is a far cry from the  premise of the original tea party.

Kate - I have seen this video several times, and, as libertarian (or as Tchaka would call a classic liberal) I agree with much (not all) of it. Posting it here is a start. It is not the teabag that makes the difference, but the person behind it.

Terry, I expected it to be an anti-obama video but was surprised.  What I took from it is that it's not anti- Obama or Anit- Bush - it's Anti Congress.

I belive that Bush was the worst President in our history, his abuse of power was unprecedented.  Bottom line is that Congress allowed him to be that way.  They were more concerned about image and getting relected than doing what was right.

Obama on the other hand seems to be moving too fast and Congress is letting him to that too.  Approving bills that have hand written provisions added in at 3:00 in the morning is just as irresponsible as approving Bush's war.

There is no difference.

I believe that Congress is the problem and that we need to do something radical like removing every incumbant that is currently in office.

Hugh, thanks for stopping by.

Mike - a classic liberal, I've not heard that term before.  I don't agree with all of it either.  It's thought provoking, it's educational, but it's not spot on.  I think that what bothers me most by the vidoe is that it represents how factional we are as a nation.  Perhaps it's that there is so much wrong that it feels as if nothing we do matters.

I agree Kate, but our cowardice keeps us from speaking out!

Terry, again, I don't think it's that we are cowards - I think it's that we no longer have a clear focus on what is important. What do we as a people want our country to be? What do we rally behind? Our country is divided on every issue. Even here in Active Rain we don't agree on the basics. There is no true rallying point so people feel helpless. Lobbiests use this against us to better the interest of the companies they are lobbying for. Even this video has too many points. We are not cowards, we are just trying to feed our families. A day of reckoning is coming and it's much bigger than income tax.

I won't lose complete and total faith in our system until we become a religious theocracy like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan, and many other countries. When we return to the days of a King, which Bush and Cheney tried so hard to do. When a military coup takes over the country and instills a dictator rather than through political elections, notwithstanding how distressing political elections are.

America isn't perfect, but it's by far the best system that has ever existed on Earth. Now things on K-Pax or in the United Federation of Planets might be better, but that's still 200 years in the future

I had almost lost complete and total faith in our system during the Bush years, but after seeing Nixon resign, and other political problems, I think this is a pretty good system. The longest we have to put up with a bad president is four years. Notwithstanding that, as we saw with all the Bush lies that are now being exposed, one can do a lot of damage in four years, especially if all those lies give him a second four years.
