In this Heat

By
Real Estate Agent with Sky Realty South Austin

Today is going to be just like yesterday, hot, hotter than that line in the June and Johnny Cash song, Hotter than a pepper sprout!...  OK, this is Texas and its July, its suppose to be HOT...  yesterday was the 17th day of record breaking heat here in Austin.  It was officially 105.  Today is suppose to be 105 or wait maybe 106.  The weatherman just sighed when he said that.

I hate to complain, but,  I know the but negates the meaning of the previous words, so maybe I do like to complain about the heat.  At any rate, yesterday when I got in my car after having a great refreshing time with my friend Betina Foreman (we had a cool rita at Chuy's and snacks)  my steering wheel was so hot I almost couldn't hold onto it.

Can you imagine that people actually leave babies and pets in cars that get that hot? Are they crazy? or just stupid?  DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN, PETS or FOOD that is pershiable in a hot car. NOT FOR 2 minutes!

At any rate... in our heat folks you must stay hydrated.  Keep water in your car, sports drinks if you are outside exerting yourself, your body losses electrolytes quickly in this heat and that causes muscle cramps.

Be kind to yourself and drink more water, OK, an occasional 'rita or cold one to cheer you up during this heat, the one thing we know is it won't last forever.   (and if this is a preview of Hell, I don't wanna go).

If you are searching for a new home in this heat let me help you.  Austin is a wonderful place to live and this heat will not last forever.  Shady Hollow is named for the shade trees and home searches in many areas are on tree lined cool streets, like Village at Western Oaks, Legend Oaks, Circle C ranch, many areas of South Austin or Dripping Springs, call me and let me help you find the right home at the right price. Do you need to buy a new home or sell your current home, I can help you.

If you have buyers that want to look at homes today, you can assume that they are serious. Hope you have access to a pool to cool off at the end of your day!

Whew! Yep hotter than a pepper sprout! Just saw it was 115 degrees in Oklahoma yesterday! Wow makes Florida seem like a refrigerator, not really! We do have a sea breeze!

Gail; You need to invest in a vehicle with remote start and air-conditioned seats! At seven this morning the pool water almost had a "cool" feeling. I'm driving to La. today where it is reportedly cooler (probably more humidity).

Terry-Whoever said, "Never let them see you sweat",Has never walked a property with a client in July in the great state of Texas.

Roy, thats for certain.  Noone is stirring outside unless the must be.

Terry, fat skinny man or woman we are all dripping after 10-20 minutes in this heat.

Dixie and Dick  ..a sea breeze is a good thought, unfortunately thats all it is here.. a thought :)

Robert, I heard about those seats recently, they do sound wonderful.

Marchel, brutal is about the right word.  No end in sight either... well maybe if El Nino does appear.  I do not want to wish bad for anyone but we could use a break. :)

Gail,

When I moved to Dallas two years ago, I did not find the temperatures to be that bad because we did not have the humidity as in Houston.  This year it feels really hot even with somewhat lower humidity.

Gail,

We're freezing in Connecticut!  Our spring and summer has been unusually cold.  Brrr!  Somedays, it reaches 80 during the day, nights are between 43 and 50.

Gail:  Better you than me.  I am in the midwest and we only have a week to a week and a half of really hot days.  That is enough for me! Our Prudential convention for 2010 is going to be in Austin. In March, hopefully before lthe hot takes over...
