The Fence

I thought I'd deviate a little bit from actual real estate info and be a bit soulful or phylosophical and share this story about a little boy with a bad temper. I think it is a good reminder of how frequently we might say/do something to someone like our child, our spouse, our friend that might remain with them for a long time due to our lack of thoughtfullness and consideration. think about:

The Fence

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back fence..

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down..

He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence..

Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same..

When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one..

Teri, thanks again for another touching post.  We've all misinterpreted things done or said and retaliated in anger before thinking it through.  Apologies, no matter how sincere sometimes can't take away the scar.  We all need to not just hear or read what is being said -- take time to make sure it's an actual fact before jumping to conclusions.

I recently read something I found difficult to believe.  After doing some research I found that what I was reading was not based entirely on fact.  Harm had been done to another's reputation -- what a waste of time and energy.

The saying, "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me," is really an untruth. Sometimes it's words that do the most damage. Mike C

I have more, lots more. I have saved them as notes in files for many years. I also do some teaching, so they are good stories to have around. Glad you like them. I'll plan to share one every Sunday, how's that?

Oh, so true!  There were times people hurt me and then apologized. Though we may forgive...it doesn't mean things will ever be the same. Somewhere along the line the trust was broken.

You're right Sally. A good reminder for us all to "think" first. Then we won't leave any holes in someone else.  Thanks for stopping by. How's Hawaii?

Teri:  Sometimes, there are some who need to change their thinking 180 degrees around anyway....those are the ones that don't need to think to begin with...as their thinking is messed up anyway.haha.  Are you coming to visit me?

LOL, thanks Sally. I've been to Hawaii - once - on a cruise around the islands about 16 years ago on my honeymoon. You have an extra room?

Price to pay to live in Paradise...we own a one bedroom townhouse and our living room is total office. Hey, but we have a courtyard where i have an orchid garden amongst other palms and other plants. Oh, so in answer to your question...no extra room...haha.
