Barton Springs Pool, inside Zilker Park, is going to be FREE tomorrow, July 11, 2009.  I would say they're doing it just because it's my birthday and I'm special, but they're doing it because it has been HOT HOT in Austin the past few weeks, and everyone needs to cool off.

Why is Barton Springs a good place to cool off?  Because the current temperature is 68 degrees!  Barton Springs is filled from a natural Spring so the water temperature typically remains much cooler than other lakes and rivers where the sun is heating them all summer long.

Granted, you'll still have to pay $3 for parking, but the actual pool is free so come on out and jump in with a splash!

I would love to be able to get away for the weekend and go tubing in HELEN, can't right now, family stuff & don't want to board my recently sick dog, but oh how your photo makes me wish I could.  It looks beautiful and there is nothing better than a dip in some cool water when it's awful, sticky and HOT!

It looks so shallow. How deep do the other parts get? Is it 68 round year?

When did Barton Springs Pool start charging? Being free was one of the nice features about it many decades ago. We still have some free pools here in San Diego.

And Happy Birthday! So you'll me able to have a margarita now that you've reached the big 21, eh?

Tammy, Yes, the cool water feels better than hot tub water!

Nevin, Trout fishing?

Paul, You're welcome!

Gary, Thank so much!

Greg, That's just the pretty, drop off section.  It's fairly deep, but not sure how deep.  As for year round, no, as it does get a little colder in the winter, but not much.

Heather, I'm thinking about it... and thank you!

Lou, I'll try, thanks!

Russel, Ahh, to be 21 again... NEVER!!  Maybe 25 or 29...  I'm not sure when they started charging, but it's something like $0.75 so it's nothing major, and they charge to park in the Spring thru Summer months.

Dale, and it's so clean and clear you can see the bottom.

Steve, Thanks!  And I haven't seen any 7-11's around, weird!
