Topbrass Bear In The Air AX AXJ    10/12/1997 - 7/9/2009

Smokey was a pleasure to have with us for eleven and a half  years.  She was the hardest driving dog anyone could imagine, and the most affectionate.  It was a privilege to have Smokey as a companion and agility partner.  A week or so ago, Smokey was fetching and brought back a training dummy and a drip of blood on her nose.  It looked like she may have bitten her tongue and it splashed up on her nose.  It was actually the first sign that there was something seriously wrong.  Yesterday, it was confirmed that she had a mast cell tumor in her nose, and it had spread to lymph nodes.  She was having difficulty breathing and could not put her head down to sleep without gagging or choking.  She was active and happy to the end.

Hello Mike,

What a lovely tribute to your companion, Smokey.  She was a beautiful dog.  I'm sorry for your loss.

I lost my dog and best friend after 15 years. It was a long time ago and I still miss her. I have a rescued basset hound now. Dewey is 10 years old and has been my best friend - other than my wife for over eight years.

You are so right in recognizing the companionship and contributions that Smoky made everyday to your quality of life. My thoughts are with you and Smoky. - Randy

Mike, I'm so sorry for your loss.  We've all been there a time or two but it isn't easy.  Smokey has crossed the Raibow Bridge and will be patiently waiting for your arrival, when your time comes.

Rita, Randy, Terry, Thank you for the kind words.  Unfortunately, I will be posting another memorial, this one is for my other Golden who was sixteen years old and followed Smokey by just five days.

Mike -  I am so sorry to read about your two losses.  My 7 year old Bernese Mountain Dog developed the same and was gone in days.  I was a complete mess for a long long time.  I now have two Australian Shepherds, one of whom is a rescue.  They are 8 years old and I'm now getting frightened of losing them too.  Our animals are such a part of our family arn't they.
