It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Mega Man! Many children (both boys and girls) dream of becoming superheros when they grow up. They look up to figures such as Batman, Spiderman, and even Elastigirl from "The Incredibles," but my grandson, age 13, achieved his dream today by becoming Mega Man for an hour on Oak Island.

My grandson has always been imaginative. Even since the age of three, we've known that whatever he put his mind to, he could do. Well, ten years later, he's decided to become a superhero. Clay's always been an entertainer. He used to put on shows in front of a camera and everyone else. He loves to make people laugh and he truly has a heart of gold. He's also known for being quite crazy. Although not as fearlessly fun-loving as his older sister, Clay will pretty much do anything after a little convincing.

Clay spent the day at the beach with his sister and a couple friends. While there, he tied the towel around his neck and jumped around on the sand. After a little support, he decided to run up and down the beach screaming, "I am Mega Man!" He did so, making everyone around him laugh his/her butt off. I can just imagine what it must have looked like. There was a group of about thirty or fourty college kids having a good time on the beach. After seeing Mega Man, they decided they'd have fun also. They called over to Clay, and after catching his breath from his previous run, he ran towards the large group again shouting, "I am Mega Man!" This time, he also added a, "Is there a damsel in distress worth saving anywhere?" As soon as he said this, agirl ran up to him and jumped in his arms. He ran with her, carrying her to safety. He rested again and then ventured back into the peril to save another damsel. This time, a large guy with big muscles ran to him and tried to be saved. However, instead of catching the large damsel, Mega Man dropped him.

My granddaughter told me this story after they got back from the shore. She had seen everything, taking pictures and videos and talking with Clay to convince him to go back to his "fans." The entire time, she and her brother were laughing, making me laugh with them. There is something so comforting, so joy-inspiring in children's (even if they are teenagers) laughter, especially when they are laughing with one another about a wonderful event they both enjoyed.
