Stopped by my local library today. Did the usual and went through the real estate book section. You see...I am a bit of a book worm which in itself is strange as when I was a kid I would rather do anything than read a book. As an adult that has changed. I don't know why.
Now the title points out a quick no no in today's word...cold calling. But at the top of the cover the headline caught my eye so I decided it was a good choice for a lazy Sunday afternoon read. The headline was "Learn how to earn $100,000 YOUR FIRST YEAR in Real Estate".
"Succeed in Real Estate without Cold Calling" written by Phil Gerisilo and Rob Lebow.
This book is copyrighted 2005 so I presume it is fairly new as I thumb through the opening pages.
The jest of the book is about the six myths that we as real estate professionals suscribe to and the fact that we continue to promote these beliefs and ways to look around them.
The six myths are:
1. You won't make any money the first six months in real estate.
2. You have to work very long hours, six and seven days a week.
3. You have to show customers (his words not mine) a lot of houses before they choose one.
4. Open houses are a waste of time.
5. You need to do lots of paperwork to be successful.
6. The sales formula - you need lots of fancy training and high pressure sales techniqes to succeed.
The book starts out and ends as a story of a new real estate agent taking a family trip and somehow sitting beside a famous real estate trainer on the plane. Most of the story is a conversation between the two. This book does make some good points and really does bring to light some of the ways we think and how easy we believe all of the "nay-sayers" of the world.
This book is 137 pages long and can be read in just one evening.
Overall it is not a bad read and it does open some points to consideration. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give this book a 7.5.
I wish you good reading and remember...NEVER STOP LEARNING!
Thanks for your post Jeff. I have to review this book! Also know that The Ninja Selling Seminar series is great. If it comes to your area, I suggest enrolling.
